BOARD OF TRUSTEES

APPROPRIATION FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS (1) A request from Dr. David Kinley, Dean of the Graduate School, that the sum of $25,000 be appropriated for scholarships and fellowships in the Graduate School for the academic year 1917-18; and that the President of the University be authorized to appoint to these positions such persons as may be recommended by the Executive Faculty of the Graduate School.

r. On ,motion; of Mr. Hoit, these requests were granted.. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Busey; Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Taggart, Mr. Ward, Miss Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trevett.

CHEMISTRY LABORATORY SUPPLIES (2) A request from the Department of Chemistry for permission to place orders for laboratory supplies between January 1, 1917, and July 1, 1917, to an amount not exceeding $26,000, for use during the academic year 1917-18, and to be paid for out of the funds of the department after July 1, 1917. The proposed distribution is as follows: glassware, $12,000; rubber goods, porcelain-ware, woodenware, ironware, filters, balances, etc., $8,000; chemicals, $6,000. This is an increase of $1,221.00 over last year.

On motion of Mr. Hoit, this request was granted. The vote was as follows: Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Taggart, Mr. Ward, Miss Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mr. Lowden, Mr. Trevett.

McKINLEY HOSPITAL GIVEN (3) A letter from the Honorable William B. McKinley, offering a gift of securities of the face value of $120,000, the proceeds of which may be used in the erection of a student and faculty Infirmary, to be known as McKinley Hospital. I hereby make the following proposition through you to the trustees of the University of Illinois: ' I am willing to give to the trustees of the University of Illinois the following securities, earning at present $5500 per year: 100 Shares of the Illinois Central Railroad, Common Stock 400 Shares of the Illinois Traction Co., Common Stock First mortgage 6% bonds, Booth-St. Louis Cold Storage Company $20,000 First mortgage 5% bonds, Omaha & * Lincoln Railway and Light Company $20,000 First mortgage 5% bonds, Danville, Urbana, Champaign Railway Company .... $10,000 First mortgage 5% bonds, Atchison Railwavy and Light Company.. $10,000 5%- bonds, Bloomington Railway and Light Company $10,000
