FIRE PROTECTION IN BUILDINGS IN CHICAGO (2) A recommendation that the Supervising Architect be authorized to install in the Pharmacy, Dental, and Medical buildings in Chicago the American District Telegraph service^ it being understood that the University will be at no initial expense for the installation, and that the expense for the number of boxes which the Supervising Architect considers necessary in the different buildings shall not exceed $354 a year. It would be necessary to make this contract for a term of five years if the installation is to be made without cost to the University,

BILL FOR LEGAL SERVICES IN NORTH CASE (3) A letter from Judge O. A. Harker, Legal Counsel, enclosing a bill from McChesney and Becker for $350 for services in the suit against the Board of Trustees by the estate of James W . North. November 1, 1916 President E. J. James, Administration Building

DEAR SIR:

I herewith hand you statement of account of Colonel MacChesney in the North matter. Shortly after this case was commenced before the Industrial Board, I found because of so many steps taken by the attorney for the administrator from day to day that it was necessary to have associated with me some local attorney. With the approval of Mr. Abbott, Colonel MacChesney was retained. H e has taken part in every one of the proceedings since that date. They include trial before the Committee of Arbitration, re-hearing before the Industrial Board, hearing in the Circuit Court on certiorari, and hearing in the Appellate Court. I think the fee a very reasonable one and for that reason recommend its early payment. Respectfully submitted,

O. A. HARKER

Legal

Counsel

On motion of Mr. Carr, the Comptroller was instructed to pay this bill. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Busey, Mr. Carr, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Small, Miss Watson; noes, none; absent, Mr. Blair, Mr. Dunne, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Trevett, Mr. Ward.
