On motion of Mrs. Evans, it was voted that these plans be approved, and that the supervising architect be authorized to call for bids on the'basis of these plans. President James then resumed his presentation of matters for the consideration of the board.

CHARTER OF T H E COLLEGE OF P H Y S I C I A N S A N D SURGEONS O F CHICAGO TO BE C A N C E L L E D .

(8) A recommendation that the legal counsel of the University be. directed to take such • steps as may be necessary to cancel the charter of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Chicago. On motion of Dr. Montgomery, it was voted to approve this recommendation.

APPOINTMENT TO BOARD OF E X A M I N E R S IN ACCOUNTANCY.

(9) A recommendation from the University Committee on Accountancy, that Mr. Arthur Young, C.P.A., of the firm of Arthur Young and Company, of Chicago, be appointed a member of the Board of Examiners in Accountancy, for a term ending June 30, 1916, to succeed Mr. John Alexander Cooper, whose term of office has expired. On the recommendation of President James and on motion of Superintendent Blair, this appointment was made as recommended. L A B O R A T O R Y FEE IN DAIRY H U S B A N D R Y I . I (10) A recommendation from the Council of Administration that a laboratory fee of $4 be established for the course in dairy bacteriology, Dairy Husbandry 11. On motion of Mr. Hoit, this recommendation from the Council of Administration was approved.

CONTRACT FOR ORGAN.

(11) A recommendation from a committee appointed to consider the purchase of an organ to be placed in the University Auditorium, that the order for the construction of the organ be placed with the firm of Casavant Brothers, of South Haven, Mich. On the recommendation of President James and on motion of Superintendent Blair, it was voted that the comptroller be authorized to let the contract for the construction of the organ to Casavant Brothers. At this point Mr. Trevett withdrew. AUTHORITY FOR BOOK ORDER. (12) A request from Mr. P. L. Windsor, Librarian, that he be given authority to order books for the University Library, .on account of the budget for the year 1914-15, to the amount of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) ; this request being made because in the case of books which are more or less rare it sometimes is several months after an order is given before they can be obtained, and unless authority is given to order such books in advance it is impossible to have them on hand for use at the time when they are needed by the various departments. On the recommendation, of President James, it was voted to approve the foregoing request from the Librarian. The vote was as follows: Mr. Abbott, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Henrotin, Mr. Hoit, Mr. Montgomery; noes, none; absent, Mr. Dunne, Mr. Meeker, Mr. Moore, Mr. Trevett, Miss Watson. REPORT OF APPOINTMENTS MADE BY T H E PRESIDENT OF T H E UNIVERSITY. The secretary presented for record the following report of appointments made by the President of the University, under the authority of the Board of Trustees: Anders, P., Assistant in Glassblowing in the, Department of Chemistry, at a salary of one hundred dollars ($100) a month, beginning when he shall report for service, and continuing until June 30, 1914. (December 27, 1913.*) Exton, Edna M., Temporary Clerk in the Loan Department of the Library, at a salary of thirty-five dollars ($35) a month, beginning January 1, 1914, and continuing until further notice. (December 19, 1913.) * The date in parenthesis is the date on which the appointment was made by the President of the University. —45 U
