PROGRESS ON BUILDINGS. Professor White made a statement also in regard to the status of the work on the Armory, and the progress being made on the plans for the Stock Judging Pavilion. MATTERS PRESENTED BY T H E PRESIDENT OF T H E UNIVERSITY. President James presented the following matters for consideration: CONTRACT FOR T H E PAVING OF LINCOLN AND MICHIGAN AVENUES. (1) The following contract for execution by the Board of Trustees to secure the payment of the assessment for the construction of the local improvements on Lincoln Avenue, Michigan Avenue, and Orchard Street in the city of Urbana: ' WHEREAS., On petition of various property owners and of the University of Illinois, an ordinance has been duly passed by the city council of Urbana, 111., and proceedings had in the County Court pursuant thereto, and special and general tax levied, all for the construction of the local improvement of Lincoln Avenue* Michigan Avenue, and Orchard Street; in said city of Urbana, by paving, grading, curbing, guttering, draining, etc.; and WHEREAS,, By the judgment of the County Court of Champaign County, 111., there.has been specially taxed against the property of the University of Illinois the aggregate principal amount of six thousand six hundred forty-two dollars and seventy-three cents ($6,642.73), divided into installments payable annually, the first installment being for the principal sum of seven hundred thirty-four dollars and forty-one cents ($734.41),' and each of the nine succeeding installments for the principal sum of six hundred fifty-six dollars and forty-eight cents ($656.48) ; and WHEREAS, Upon notice to that end, bids were received and contract for the construction of said improvement has been awarded to John W. Stipes, contractor, by the Board of Local Improvements of said city, and said contractor is about to enter upon the execution of said contract and the construction of said improvement pursuant to said ordinance; and WHEREAS, It is desired to fully secure, and validate the issue of bonds as provided by the ordinance for said improvement, the proceeds of which are to be used to defray the cost and expense of said improvement and the lawful expenses incident thereto; Nowj therefore, In consideration of the benefits to be received by the real estate and property of the University of Illinois from the construction of said improvement, the said University of Illinois, by its duly authorized officers and trustees, does hereby agreed to pay to the city collector Or other proper officer of the city of Urbana, 111., the sums shown on the assessment roll specially taxed against said University of Illinois, together with five per cent (5%> interest on the deferred installments thereof, amounting in the aggregate to the principal sum of six thousand six hundred forty-two dollars and seventy-three cents ($6,642.73), the first installment of which is for the principal sum of seven hundred thirty-four dollars and forty-one cents ($734.-4l^^aridreach: of^ the" nine
