ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF CROP PRODUCTION.

3. A recommendation that Albert N.. Hume be appointed assistant professor of crop production in the College of Agriculture, and assistant chief in crop production in the Experiment Station, at a salary of twenty-four hundred dollars ($2,400.00) per annum, the appointment to take effect as soon as Mr. Hume reports to the University for duty. On motion of Mrs. Bnsey and. by the following vote Mr. H u m e was appointed at the salary named: Ayes, Messrs. Abbott, Blair, Crebs, Grout, Hatch and Moore, and Mrs. Bahrenburg, Mrs. Bnsey, and Mrs. E v a n s ; noes, n o n e ; absent, Governor Deneen and Mr. Meeker. AMERICAN MISSIONARY COLLEGE ALUMNI. 4. In accordance with a request from the American Medical Missionary College of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Chicago, Illinois, approved .by Dr. W. E. Quine, Dean of the Medical College; Dr. D. A. KL Steele, Actuary, and Dr. Prank B. Earle, Secretary; and after examination of the standing of said college, before the Board of Medical Registration in the state of Mich* Lgan, and other state examining boards, I authorized the Registrar of the University to admit to the Medical College of the University as members of the freshman class those students who should present certificates from said college of having be" en matriculated, and those students to advanced standing who may have completed satisfactorily the subjects mentioned in their certificates, on condition that said certificates cover in every respect the requirements for admission to advanced standing set by the* University of Illinois. I present to the board a request from said American Medical Missionary College that their alumni be recognized as alumni of the University of Illinois and that certificates to that effect be given to them upon compliance with the ordinary rules governing such cases. I recommend that said request be referred to the committee on the Medical School with a request for a report. Voted t h a t said recommendation be approved. THE ACADEMY. 5. Referring to the previous discussion of the continuance of the University Academy (see minutes of the board, April 12, 1910), I desire to present a report adopted by the University Senate on April 18, 1910, and recommend that the resolution of the Seriate be referred to a special committee to be appointed by the president of the board, with a rquest for an early report. RECOMMENDATION OP THE SENATE, APRIL 18, 1910. A committee appointed by the Senate to investigate the relations between the Academy and the University reported the following recommendations: "1. That the Academy be discontinued after June, 1912. "2. That in place of the Academy there be established a training, experimental and observational school of secondary, grade, which shall serve as a laboratory for the School of Education under the control and direction of the Department* of Education.
