Glenz, E. A., student assistant in Chemistry, for seven months beginning Dec. 1, 1911, at a salary of ten dollars ($10.00) per month, vice T. F. Zucker (appointed gfaudate assistant.) (Dec. 5, 1011.) ' Jacoby, Friedrich Gunther, lecturer on German literature and Philosophy for the second semester of the. current academic year beginning Feb, 5, 1912, and ending June 12, 1912, at a salary of five hundred dollars ($500.00) for the semester. (Nov. 17, 1911.) Ryan, Rose Ellen, stenographer in the office of the dean of the College of Literature and Arts, at a salary of fifty dollars ($50.00) per month, beginning as soon as she reports for service and running until Aug. 31, 1912, subject to the next examination held by the Civil Service Commission. (Dec. 1, 1911.) ' Stromquist, W. G., assistant engineer of the Water Survey, for nine months beginning Dec. 1,1911, at a salary of one hundred dollars ($100.00) per month. (Dec. 4, 1911.) ' Wallace, Lee, instructor in Architecture, from Nov. 10, 1911, to June 30, 1912, at a salary of one hunder dollars ($100.00) per month. (Nov. 23, 1911.) Zucker, T. F., graduate assistant in Chemistry, for seven months beginning Dec. 1, 1911, at a salary of thirty dollars ($30.00) per month, vice J. A. Kingsbury, resigned. (Dec. 5, 1911.)

E E P O R T OF T H E C O M M I T T E E ON B U I L D I N G S AND GROUNDS.

The secretary presented the following report of the Committee on Buildings and Grounds: Dec. 7, 1911. To the board of Trustees of the University of Illinois: The Buildings and Grounds Committee of the board held a meeting at the Blackstone hotel, Chicago, Dec. 2, 1911, at which were present Mrs. Evans and Messrs. Hatch, Moore, eand Abbott, chairman. Business as follows was transacted: COAL CONVEYOR FOR THE BOILER HOUSE. The committee authorized the expenditure of $2,500.00 for a coal conveyor for the boiler house, the question having been referred to them with power to act by the board on November 10. INSPECTION FOR ELEVATORS, The question of providing inspection for the University elevators was referred to the committee with power to act on November 10. The committee voted to authorize inspection without insurance, and the supervising architect ^was instructed to arrange for inspection at a cost of not to exceed $30.00 per elevator per annum.

PROPOSED CONTRACT FOR ELECTRICITY.

After considering the proposed contract with the Illinois Traction' Company for electricity, which was referred to the committee otf November 10, with power to act, the supervising architect was instructed to continue negotiations with the Traction Company with a view to obtaining rates on larger quantities of current. APPROPRIATIONS FOR BUILDING REPAIRS. The appropriations for building repairs, which the board at its meeting on November 10, referred to the Buildings and Grounds Committee with
