The president of the University presented the following matters for consideration: GIFT FOR MUSEUM OF CLASSICAL ARCHAEOLOGY. (1) A letter'from Miss Marie N. Buckman, secretary of the Egypt exploration fund, stating that Mr. William G. Hibbard, Jr., of the firm of Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Company, has designated the University of Illinois as the recipient of the articles of archaeological interest which may be given to him by the Egypt Exploration Society, on account of his being a subscribing member of that corporation; and stating also that certain articles are ready to be forwarded by freight upon notice of their acceptance by the University. The president stated t h a t he had accepted this gift on behalf of the University, subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees, and recommended t h a t the collection be assigned to the Mnseum of Classical Archaeology in Lincoln Hall, of which Professor A. S. Pease is curator; I t was voted to approve the action of the president in accepting this gift and his recommendation that, the collection be assigned to the Museum of Classical Archaeology, and also to authorize Professor Pease to expend not to exceed fifty dollars ($50.00) in providing a suitable case for the care and exhibition of the articles named in the letter from Miss Buckman. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Bahrenburg, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Grout, Mr. Hatch, Mr. H o i t ; noes, n o n e ; absent, Mr. Anthony, Mr. Blair, Mr. Deneen, Mr. Meeker, Mr. Moore. DIRECTOR OF SHOP LABORATORIES APPOINTED. (2) A recommendation from Dr. W. F. M. Goss, dean of the College of Engineering, that Mr. Bruce W. Benedict, now in the Motive Power Department of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company, at Topeka, Kjansas, be appointed director of the Shop Laboratories in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, at a salary of $3,500.00 per year, the salary to begin as soon as Mr. Benedict reports for work; and a further recommendation from Dean Goss that the services of Mr. P. J. Freeman, the temporary acting head of the shop laboratories, employed by the month, be discontinued at such time after the coming of Mr. Benedict as may be determined by the dean of the College of Engineering; the arrangement to be such that the combined salaries of Mr. Benedict and Mr. Freeman for the year ending Aug. 31, 1912, shall not exceed the sum of $3,500.00 appropriated for this position by the Board of Trustees in the last budget (page 447). These recommendations were approved.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR DEAN GREENE,

(3). A request from Dr. Evarts B. Greene, dean of the College of Literature and Arts, for leave of absence on half pay for the academic year beginning Feb. 1, 1912. I t was voted t h a t the president of the University be authorized to grant this request in case he finds it possible to make suitable provision for Dean Greene's work during his absence.
