UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS.

[Sept. 20

WHEREAS, The head of the department of Dairy Husbandry and the Dean of the College of Agriculture had recommended William Dodge Frost as Professor of Municipal and Sanitary Dairying in the University of Illinois before learning that he is a relative of a professor in the University; and WHEREAS, Owing to the advanced state of the negotiations with Professor Frost before the fact of such relationship became known, serious hardship may be done to Professor Frost by the enforcement of the rule in this case; therefore, be it Resolved, That by way of exception, the President of the University is authorized to appoint Professor Frost to a professorship of Municipal and Sanitary Dairying in the University of Illinois at a salary of twenty-eight hundred dollars ($2,800.00) per annum, work and salary to begin as soon as Professor Frost may report for work, in case it appears to the president that serious hardship will be done by enforcing said rule in this case. 2. That the Board of Trustees, while being willing to waive the observance of the statute in this instance, owing to the peculiar circumstances in the case, hereby reaffirms the rule that no relative of a member of the Board of Trustees or of any professor or instructor, or of any other person occupying an influential position in the University, shall be appointed to a position under the Board of Trustees. On motion of Mr. Meeker the president's recommendation was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Governor Deneen, Messrs. Blair, Crebs,. Gront, Meeker and Mrs. Busey and Mrs. E v a n s ; noes, Messrs. Hatch, and Moore and Mrs. Bahrenmrrg; absent, Mr. Abbott.

Mrs. Bahrenburg moved t h a t the Finance Committee investigate the method of paying bills by the University in order to see if t h e i r payment may not be expedited, and the motion was adopted.

Papef E is a statement of the United States Agricultural Experiment Station appropriations June 30, 1910. Paper F is a statement of the School of Pharmacy, appropriations June 30, 1910. . Paper G is a statement of the College of Medicine appropriations June 30, 1910. Paper H is an estimate of the receipts and expenses for the twelve monthsending June 30, 1911. • • • * Paper I is a list of the appropriations the board is requested to make at this time. Paper L is a report of the receipts by the chief clerk for the three months ending June 30, 1910.
