Bagley, director of t h e School of Education, for leave of absence w i t h o u t pay from Sept. 1, 1911, t o Feb. 1, 1912, in order t h a t h e m a y be able to accept an invitation to act upon a commission which i s to investigate and report upon t h e efficiency of t h e school s y s t e m of t h e city of New York. I t w a s v o t e d t h a t t h e p r e s i d e n t of t h e U n i v e r s i t y he a u t h o r i z e d t o g r a n t t h i s r e q u e s t , if s u i t a b l e a r r a n g e m e n t s c a n be m a d e t o c a r e for Professor Bagley's work in the meantime. A P P O I N T M E N T OF P R O F E S S O R OF LAW. 2. A recommendation t h a t t h e president of t h e University be authorized to appoint Mr. Chester G. Vernier, now professor of L a w in th.e University of Indiana, a t Bloomington, Ind., to be professor of L a w in t h e University of Illinois, a t a salar;Kof t h r e e t h o u s a n d dollars ($3,000.00) per a n n u m , and also s e c r e t a r y of t h e faculty of t h e College of Law, w i t h an additional rem u n e r a t i o n of five h u n d r e d dollars ($500.00) p e r a n n u m , work and salary to begin Sept. 1, 1911. I t w a s v o t e d t o a u t h o r i z e t h e p r e s i d e n t of t h e U n i v e r s i t y t o this appointment. RECONSTRUCTION OF MEN'S GYMNASIUM. 3. A recommendation from Professor J. M. White, supervising architect, t h a t one-half of t h e State appropriation of $5,000.00 given for t h e reconstruction of t h e Men's Gymnasium be appropriated for t h e finishing of t h e west half of t h e building, in accordance with t h e plans approved when t h e reconstruction w a s begun, and t h a t t h e supervising architect be authorized to proceed a t once w i t h t h e w o r k ; t h i s will include t h e p u t t i n g in of a mezzanine floor, and a system of ventilation for t h e west half of t h e building, and t h e pool room. I t was voted to approve the foregoing recommendation a n d t o m a k e t h e a p p r o p r i a t i o n of twenty-five h u n d r e d d o l l a r s ( $ 2 , 5 0 0 . 0 0 ) t h a t is involved.
