UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS.

[March 9

same was appropriated: Yeas, Messrs. Abbott, Davison, Grout, H a t c h and Moore, and Mrs. Busey and Mrs. E v a n s ; absent, Governor Deneen, Messrs. Blair, Crebs and Meeker, and Mrs. Bahrenbiirg.

Meetings of the Executive Committee

Mr. Abbott, chairman of the Executive Committee, presented reports of meetings held as follows by the committee: Dec. 14, 1909, printed with the minutes of the meeting of t h a t date. Feb. 3, 1910, printed with the minutes of that date. Feb. 25, 1910, as follows: To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois: Your Executive Committee begs leave to report that it held a meeting at the University, Feb. 25, 1910, at which all members of the Committee were present.

S E T T L E M E N T W I T H COAL COMPANY.

Mr. Abbott, chairman of the Committee on Buildings, presented the following report from t h a t committee: To the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, University of Illinois: The Electric Coal Company, of Danville, which had the contract for supplying the University with coal last year, and has the contract for the present year, has not accepted the settlement of the last year's account which the board authorized, viz, the deduction of $5^-.76, because of the coal failing in some ways to come up to the contract specifications. The Coal Company questions the accuracy of our sampling, and in December of last year a different method of sampling was adopted, which showed an apparent change in favor of the Coal Company of about 2% per cent, and this, applied to last year's business, would just about wipe out the deduction which the Buildings and Grounds Committee recommended, and which the board authorized. In view of all the circumstances in the case, the Buildings and Grounds Committee is of the opinion that it would be policy to allow the Coal Company the benefit of the doubt and authorize the payment in full of their last year's bill. Very truly yours,

W. L. ABBOTT,

Chairman. Mr. Grout moved that payment be made to the Electric Coal Company of Danville, in accordance with the foregoing, and the motion prevailed, Mrs. Bahrenburg voting no. SETTLEMENT WITH V. JOBST & SON. After- listening to a statement by Professor J. M. "White, supervising architect, to the effect that the contracts for the erection of the Physics building, and for the addition to the Natural History building, were very nearly completed, on motion of Mrs. Bahrenburg it was recommended that the contractors be paid, with the approval of the Buildings and Grounds Committee, $20,000. The committee adjourned.

W. L. PUXSBTJRY, W. L. ABBOTT, Chairman.

Clerk.
