On motion of Mr. Moore, these deeds were referred to the'Committee on Agriculture for consideration and recommendation.

FIRE INSPECTION.

On motion of Mr. Abbott the Committee on Buildings and Groundswas authorized to have made a fire inspection of the University property, and by the following vote $50.00 was appropriated for this purpose. Yeas, Messrs. Abbott, Crebs, Grout, Hatch, and Moore, and Mrs. Busey and Mrs. Evans; nays, none; absent, Governor Deneen, Messrs. Blair, Davison and Meeker, and Mrs. Alexander-Bahrenburg.

PURCHASE OF W H I T E FARM.

The proposition to purchase the White farm,,near Olney, for the use of the Horticultural department of the University ('see page 470 of the minutes) was considered. At a meeting of the Horticultural Advisory Committee, held on July 29, 1909, in the Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern railway station of the city of Olney, those present being Messrs. Jolly, Perine, Graham and Tanner, it was voted unanimously to recommend to the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois the purchase of the so-called White farm, about one and one-half miles east of Olney, containing seventy-six acres, more of less, at a maximum price of sixty-five dollars ($65) per acre, for a permanent experimental farm. This farm is owned by A. J. White, and is situated on the main road from the city of Olney, one-half mile east of the city limits of the city, of Olney, one and one-half mile east of the court house in Olney, on what is known as the Vincennes and St. Louis state road. The following is the description of the tract: The west half (V2) of the southwest quarter (%) (except the ten (10) acres out of northeast corner), section thirty-six (36). Also a certain piece of land commencing at a point 12 chains south of northwest corner of east half (Vfc) of southwest quarter (%) of section thirty-six (36); township four (4) north, range ten (10) east; thence south 28 chains and 19 links; thence east 4 chains and 26 links; thence north.28 chains and 19 links; thence west 4 chains and 26 links, and containing 12 acres. Also a certain other parcel of land beginning at northeast corner of southeast quarter of section 35, township four (4) north, range ten (10) east; thence running south 40 chains to township line; then west one chain; then north 40 chains; thence east one (1) chain to place of beginning, containing 4 acres and containing in all 86 acres more or less (except a certain piece of land conveyed to Henry M. Leathers in the northwest corner of said land, being 11 acres more or less, and recorded in Deed Record 51, page 12). . It is proposed to charge the purchase price to the horticultural fund granted by the last Legislature. The recommendation of the Advisory Committee had been approved by the department of horticulture and by the director of the experiment station.
