UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS. AGRICULTURAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

The,following resolution was adopted on motion of Mr. Hatch:

WHEREAS, President James has asked for the opinion and position of thisBoard regarding the Agricultural advisory committees under the recommendation of which certain funds of the University are expended; therefore,, be it . . Resolved, That the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois hereby approves of the work of the advisory committees connected with the University and believes that great good has been done, and is now being done, for the interests of the State and University by said committee and most heartily recommends that their services be retained.

President James submitted the following m a t t e r s : CARNEGIE FOUNDATION. 1. Material relating to the request of the University of Illinois to be placed upon the "accepted list" of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching: (a) Copy of the letter of the president of the University to the Carnegie Board. (b) Copy of the Joint Resolution of the Illinois Legislature relating to the request of the University. (c) Certified copy of the minutes of the Board of Trustees, authorizing" the president to make application on behalf of the University to be placed on the said list. (d) Copy of letter of Henry S. Pritchett, president of the Carnegie Foundation in reply to said request. Eeceived for record.

Pritchett, Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, 576 Fifth Avenue, New York City: MY DEAR SIR—I desire to make formal application to the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching to place the State University of Illinois, located at Urbana, 111., upon the list of institutions to whose professors retiring allowances may be granted under the rules of the foundation: I am inclosing: 1. A certified copy of an extract from the minutes of the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, held April 23, 1908, authorizing me to make such application on behalf of the University. 2. A certified copy of Senate Joint Resolution No. 10, of the Forty-sixth. General Assembly of the State of Illinois, adopted by the Senate and approved by the Governor of the State, Hon. Charles S. Deneen, Feb. 20, 1909, endorsing the application of the University. We should be greatly obliged if the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching would act upon this application as soon as may be convenient to them.
