WHEEEAS, The Carnegie F o u n d a t i o n for t h e Advancement of Teaching, a corporation a c t i n g u n d e r a c h a r t e r from t h e F e d e r a l g o v e r n m e n t of t h e United States, h a s adopted a plan of g r a n t i n g r e t i r i n g allowances for long, and distinguished service to t h e professors in those colleges a n d universities, of the United States whose s t a n d a r d s of work correspond to t h e demands, set by t h e t r u s t e e s of said foundation; and W H E E E A S , T h e t r u s t e e s of said foundation have provided that, in caseState u n i v e r s i t i e s desire to secure t h e advantages of t h i s system of retiring; allowances for t h e m e m b e r s of t h e i r faculties, the request of t h e board of trustees of said universities a s k i n g for said privilege shall be. approved by the legislature of the s t a t e s u p p o r t i n g said u n i v e r s i t y ; and W H E E E A S , T h e Board of T r u s t e e s of t h e University of Illinois h a s requested, said foundation to place t h e State University of Illinois on t h e list of institutions to the members of whose faculties r e t i r i n g allowances a r e granted: u n d e r t h e rules of said foundation; therefore, be it Resolved, by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring herein,. T h a t t h e request of t h e Board of T r u s t e e s of t h e University of Illinois addressed to t h e Carnegie F o u n d a t i o n for t h e Advancement of T e a c h i n g to place t h e State University of Illinois on t h e list of i n s t i t u t i o n s to t h e members of whose faculties r e t i r i n g allowances are granted under t h e rules; of said foundation be hereby approved. Adopted by t h e Senate Feb. 3, 1909.
