PROCEEDINGS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

We obtained a certificate from the State Bank of Chicago, certifying to the amount to the credit of the treasurer on their books at the close of business, Sept. 30, 1908, namely, $970,565.51. Respectfully submitted,

President. The report was received for record. The board took a recess until 2:00 o'clock p. m.

Afternoon Session, March 9, 1909.

When the board met after the recess the same members were present :as in the forenoon.

E L E C T I O N OF O F F I C E R S .

The election of officers resulted as follows: Mr. W.-L. Abbott was elected president of the board of trustees for the ensuing year. Mr. W. L. Pillsbury was elected secretary and registrar for the ensuing year. Mr. H . A. H a u g a n was elected treasurer for the ensuing two years. Mrs. Alexander and Mr. Grout were elected to serve with the president of the board as the Executive Committee for the year. President James was elected president of the University for the ensuing two years by the following yote: Yeas, Messrs. Abbott, Davison, Grout, Hatch and Moore, and Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Busey; nays, none; absent, Governor Deneen^ Messrs. Crebs, Blair and Meeker. Mrs. Alexander asked to be excused from voting, giving her reason therefor the following: "Last December I refused to give President James a vote of confidence, and I have not changed my mind since then, so I ask tp be excused from voting." Professor S. W. Shattuck was elected comptroller for the ensuing year. Mr. O. E. Staples was elected chief clerk for the ensuing year.

BONDS.

On motion of Dr. Davison the bond of the treasurer was fixed at $1,500,000. The bond of the chief clerk was fixed at $20,000, and by the following vote it was ordered t h a t the cost of the same should be paid by the University: Yeas, Messrs. Abbott, Davison, Grout, Hatch and Moore^ and Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Busey; nays, n o n e ; absent, Governor Deneen, Messrs. Crebs, Blair and Meeker. I t was ordered, on motion of Mrs. Alexander, that the Finance Committee should secure satisfactory bonds as above and report the same "to the board.
