UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS.

Meeting of December 13, 1904.

T h e Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois met at the U n i versity at 9:00 o'clock a. m., Tuesday, December 13, 1904. T h e members present were Messrs. H a t c h , Kerrick, McLean and Nightingale and M r s . Alexander, M r s . Abbot a n d M r s . E v a n s ; absent Governor Yates, a n d Messrs. Bayliss, Dickirson and McKinley. M r . Bullard came in later. President James was present. T h e Secretary presented the minutes of the Board meetings held September 27, 1904, a n d November 9, 1904, and these were approved as presented.

C O M M U N I C A T I O N S FROM P R E S I D E N T J A M E S .

T h e President of t h e University presented the following matters for consideration: 1. A recommendation from the Council of Administration that the High School Visitor be added to the Senate by virtue of his office. T h e recommendation w a s approved. 2. A letter from Colonel E. G. FechSt, head of the military department of the University, requesting that a two-story addition be built to the Armory for the necessary storage of guns and ammunition. Communication referred to the Committee on Buildings and Grounds with power to act and instructions t o report. 3. A communication from Vice President Burrill suggesting the name of Watcheka Hall for the Woman's building. I t was voted to postpone the selection of a name for the W o m a n ' s building for future consideration. 4. A request from the Director of the Men's Gymnasium that a piano be placed in the gymnasium, and a person be employed to play it, in connection with the gymnasium drill. The Estimated expense was $15 for the rent of the piano for five months, at $3 per month, and $72 for the services of a musician, at $1 a day for four days a week for eighteen weeks; total, $87. T h e matter was referred to the President with power to act. 5. A request from the Director of Physical Training for an addition to the regular appropriation to the department of physical training. O n e h u n d r e d and fifty dollars was added to the appropriation. 6. A recommendation from Dean Ricker that Robert Clayton Mathews* salary be fixed at $90 a month from January 1, 1905, and that Hammond William Whitsitt's salary be fixed at $85 a month for the same period. T h e recommendation was approved.
