After the discussion, on motion of M r . Kerrick, it was voted that if the commission created by an Act of the General Assembly, approved J u n e I I , 1897, and in force on that day, so advise, the Board will formally release the said lien; and the President and Secretary of the Board were authorized to execute a proper release when so advised by the commission. A recess was taken to witness an inspection of the regiment and attend convocation. FARM MECHANICS BUILDING.

URBANA, April 25, 1906.

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. Your special committee reports recommending the acceptance of the following lowest bids tendered tor the construction of the farm mechanics building: General contract: W. M. Allen & Son, Peoria—Gross bid, $29,587; deduct for batten doors/ $500; net bid, $29,087. Heating and plumbing: Carson-Payson Company, Danville—$2,414. Elevator: Parkhurst Manufacturing Company, Peru, Indiana—Direct connected elevator, $1,095. The bids of $880 and $945 by this company are not acceptable, as they are not based upon a direct-connected elevator as required. Respectfully submitted,

Committee. By the report of the committee, it appeared that the cost of the building on the. plans which had been prepared would be something over $33,000, while but $25,000 was available for that purpose. After considerable discussion, the following resolution, offered by Mr. ,Bayliss, was adopted: WHEREAS, the Advisory Committee created by section 1 of an Act of the "General Assembly, regarding the College of Agriculture, approved May 18, 1905, advised that of the $50,000 appropriated for the College for the year beginning July 1, 1905, by said section of said Act, $16,500 be u s e d t o proyidje a residence for the Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station; and WHEREAS, the Attorney General has advised the Board of Trustees of the University that it may not lawfully use said sum of money as recommended; therefore, be it Resolved, that the Board of Trustees of the University requests the said Advisory Committee to reconsider said recommendation and in the exercise of its discretion advise the Trustees further as to the best use of the said sum of $16,500. ,, . . . . . O n motion of M r . Lehman, the President of the Board was authorized to close contracts with the lowest bidders for the construction of the farm mechanics building, as recommended by the special committee, in the event that the additional money needed therefor be made available by the Advisory Committee.

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT TO HAVE A ROOM BUILDING. IN FARM MECHANICS

M r . Abbott, Chairman of the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, reported with reference to a request made by Mr. Huff t h a t the warehouse building on the south campus be given to the athletic department
