Voted to g r a n t this request. 21. The Geological Survey, through its director, H. Foster Bain, proposes that the Geological Survey be authorized to assume a portion of the salaries of Professor Parr and Professor Bartow during the remainder of this year, in return for which the University of Illinois will do certain work for the Geological Survey during the coming year. Voted that the President of the University may make such distribu-. lion of salaries as he deems expedient. 22. Certain citizens of Champaign have submitted a readiest that the University give the use of thirty-three feet of land lying along the north side of the horticulture tract from Wright street to Fourth street, for a public street. Voted that the Trustees regret that they can not see their way clear to g r a n t i n g this request. 23. At a meeting of the University Council held March 7th it was voted to request the Board of Trustees to permit the Council to award either two of the fellowships for the coming year with a stipend of $300, or in their place three scholarships with a stipend of $200 each. Voted that this request be granted. 24. The resignation of Professor Charles F. Perry as Assistant Professor of Machine Construction to take effect June 30, 1906, is herewith submitted, with, a recommendation from the Dean of the College of Engineering and the Professor of Mechanical Engineering, that such resignation be accepted and that the President be authorized to nominate a suitable man for the position of Assistant Professor of Machine Construction who will have charge of the mechanical shops, at a salary of $1,800, from July 1, 1906, if a suitable man can be found by that time. Voted that Professor P e r r y ' s resignation be accepted and that the further recommendations be approved. 25. The Department of Geology requests permission to appoint two assistant professors on half time instead of one assistant professor on full time. Voted that such request be granted, and that the President be authorized to nominate men for such positions. 26. Col. Fechet asks authority to exchange the present cadet rifles for a new rifle proposed by the War Department; and recommends that a new bond be made out by the University covering the value of the entire outfit furnished to the University by the government. Voted that such exchange of rifles be made, that the bond be made, and that the President of the Board be instructed to sign it on behalf of the University. 27. By authority given me by the Board of Trustees, I have made the following appointments, which are here reported in order that they may be made a matter of record: Bradley Charles Gardner, student assistant in chemistry, at a salary of $200.00 for the ten months beginning September 1, 1905. Miss Edith Williams to fill the place made vacant by the resignation of Miss Mary Davison, as assistant in the woman's gymnasium. Miss Williams is employed under tne same terms as Miss Davison, namely $70 for the academic year. Florence Wilson has been appointed stenographer in the Vice President's office at a salary of $40.00 a month, beginning November 1, 1905. Eleanor Beardsley to instruct elementary voice students, she to receive seventy-five per cent of their tuitions as her remuneration. Frederick Post armorer and administrative assistant in the military department, at a salary of $45.00 a month, for seven months, beginning November 1, 1905.
