and the continuance thereof, and at the same time desiring to reduce our askings to the lowest point consistent with the continued development of the University, we recommend that the following items be asked for in the regular appropriation bill: 1. For the payment of taxes accruing in the years 1900 and 1901 on lands owned by the University in the State of Minnesota, and held for the use of the University, the sum of $1,000.00 per annum. 2. For the payment of salaries, for the care of buildings and grounds, and for ordinary operating expenses, the sum of $175,000.00 per annum. 3. For additions to library, $15,000.00 per annum. 4. For additions to apparatus and appliances, $3,000.00 per annum. 5. For materials for shop practice, $2,000.00 per annum. 6. For increase of scientific cabinets and collections, $1,000.00 per annum. 7. For fire protection, $1,500.00 per annum. 8. For laying pavements and walks, $6,000.00 per annum. 9. For the maintenance of the Vaccine laboratory, $1,200.00 per annum. 10., For the maintenance and extension of engineering equipment, $10,000.00 per annum. 11. For painting and repairs on buildings, and improvements to grounds, $5,000.00 per annum. 12. For carrying on the State water analyses, $3,000.00. 13. For draining, fencing, and repairs on the experiment farms, $3,000.00 per annum. 14. For expenses of a summer term of the University, $5,000.00 per annum. 15. For providing additional teachers in the College of Agriculture, in order to meet the demands for instruction at farmers' institutes, the sum of $6,000.00 per annum. Your committee recommends that application for the following additions to the plant be made: 1. For payment for deficit in the construction of the Agricultural Building $10,000.00. 2. For furnishing and equiping the Agricultural Building, $5,000.00. 3. For the construction of a chemical laboratory, $150,000.00. 4. For the construction of a woman's building, $100,000.00. 5. For completing the water plant of the University, $10,000.00. 6. For reconstructing the old Chemical Laboratory so as to make it available for the College of Law or the School of Music, $10,000.00. 7. For the purchase of small parcels of land, surrounded by lands of the University, and needed to make the holdings of the State complete within the general boundary of the University grounds, $20,000.00. 8. For equipment for the Wood Shops, Hydraulic Laboratory, and Men's Gymnasium, destroyed by fire, $15,000.00. 9. For additions to the Central Heating and Lighting Plant to meet the demands of the Agricultural Buildings and a new Gymnasium, Wood Shops, and Testing Laboratory, etc., $12,000.00.
