The Secretary also presented the recommendation of the Faculty of the School of Pharmacy that the degree of Pharmceutical Chemist be conferred upon Robert Clyde Smith, and authority was given to confer this degree. The question of conferring degrees upon graduates of the School of Dentistry at the, commencement of the School, to be held May 3rd, was referred to the Executive Committee with power to act. Mr. Smith offered the following resolution whieh was adopted: Whereas, We have learned with surprise and profound regret that on the 6th inst. our beloved President, Andrew Sloan Draper, met with a most serious accident while driving-, being thrown from his buggy, and afterwards suffered the loss of one of his legs by amputation above the knee; therefore Eesolved, That we tender to him and his family our most sincere and heartfelt sympathy in his great affliction; and Eesolved, That we tender him one year's leave of absence on full pay. The Committee on the School of Pharmacy was instructed to see what in the way of improvements could be secured upon the building now occupied by the School of Pharmacy in case a lease were taken for five or ten years, and to report the result of the inquiry at the J u n e meeting of the Board. Dr. Burrill presented the following communication from the University Senate, stating that the Council recommended the degree of Doctor of Laws: URBANA, I I I . , April 23, 1902. lo the Board oj Trustees of the University of Illinois: The University Senate respectfully submits the following recommendation: At the meeting of the Council of Administration April 2d, it was voted to recommend to the Senate, for recommendation to the Board of Trustees that Mr. Robert Rldgeway be given the honorary degree of LL. D. or Sc. D., as may be recommended by the Council. The Senate concurred in this recommendation at its meeting April 7, 1902.

Secretary. I t was voted to suspend the rule with regard to conferring honorary degrees, adopted at the March meeting of the Board, and to authorize the conferring of the degree of LL. D. upon Mr. Ridgeway, as reoommended. Authority was also given to prepare and bestow upon the recipient of the degree the academic hood significant thereof. A communication from certain members of the Faculty with reference to erecting a University Club House upon the campus was referred to a speoial committee—Mr. Smith, Mrs. Abbott and Mr. Bullard,—for consideration and report at next meeting of the board. The board adjourned.
