lo the Board of Trustees: I respectfully make the following recommendations to the Board: 1. That Doctor Edwin Grant Dexter be appointed professor of pedagogy at a, salary of $2,000 per annum, with the term of employment to begin September 1, 1900, and with the understanding that Doctor Dexter shall participate in the work of the summer term and be compensated therefor the same as other University professors. Doctor Dexter was born in Calais, Maine, July 21, 1868. He graduated at Brown University with the degree of A. B. in 1891, and received the degree of A. M. from Brown University in 1892, He received the higher diploma from the Teachers' College, of Columbia University, in 1899, and the degree of Ph. D., (education, psychology, philosophy,) from Columbia University in 1899. He was an instructor in Brown University in the year 1891-'92; a teacher in the Colorado Springs High School from 1892 to 1895; a professor in the State Normal School, at Greeley, .Colorado, from 1895 to the present time, except that he spent the year 1898-'99 in work at Columbia University. He was director of the Colorado summer school in the summers of 1893 and 1894, and a director of sormal institutes in Colorado in the summers of 1896, 1897 and 1898. 2. I transmit the recommendation of the Council of Administration that the summer term be continued next summer, but for the period of six weeks rather than nine; and recommend that an appropriation of $2,000, together with the fees which may be received, be made for the support of the same. 3. I transmit a letter from the secretary of the Illinois Pharmaceutical Association certifying to the action of that body in nominating Messrs. T. S. Arnold, of Watseka, W. Gr. Carrothers, of Fairfield, and Charles Ryan, of Springfield, from which to select a member of the Advisory Board of the School of Pharmacy to succeed Mr. T. C. Loehr, of Carlinville, whose term has expired. 4. I transmit the report of the Dean of the College of Agriculture and the Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station covering requests for appropriations for the quarter ending March 31, 1900. I approve his requests for appropriations for the College of Agriculture as follows:
