UNIVEESITY OF ILLINOIS.

Resolved, That all the administrative officers of the University be and they ;are hereby charged with the administration of the affairs of the School of Pharmacy the same as of all other departments of the University, and that they make such local arrangements at the School as may seem necessary for the proper conduct of its affairs. P r e s i d e n t D r a p e r p r e s e n t e d Professor S n y d e r ' s r e s i g n a t i o n of t h e c h a i r of t h e G e r m a n l a n g u a g e a n d l i t e r a t u r e . This resignation was a c c e p t e d by t h e a d o p t i o n of t h e following r e s o l u t i o n s : WHEREAS, Professor Edward Snyder, of the German department, who has been connected with the University from the beginning, has felt impelled to tender his resignation because of ill health and the necessity of residence in a milder or more uniform climate; Resolved, That the sound scholarship and amiable qualities of Professor Snyder manifested here during the long period of twenty-eight years, have gained him the entire respect and affectionate regard of all connected with the University; that this Board of Trustees deeply regrets the necessity of his resignation and accepts the same only because it seems imperatively to his advantage to do so; that it cannot do so except with an expression of its apreciation of the great services he has rendered the University and the sincere ope that rest in a more favorable climate will bring him renewed health and that his life may yet be prolonged through many happy years. Resolved, That the resignation be accepted to take effect January 1, 1897; that Professor Snyder be given leave of absence from the close of the current term, and that he be continued upon the corps of instruction as Professor of the German Language and Literature, emeritus.

U p o n r e c o m m e n d a t i o n of P r e s i d e n t D r a p e r , L e w i s A d d i s o n R h o a d e s , P H . D . , was a p p o i n t e d A s s i s t a n t Professor of t h e G e r m a n L a n g u a g e a n d L i t e r a t u r e , at a salary of $1,500 a year, t h e a p p o i n t m e n t to t a k e effect S e p t e m b e r 9, 1896. O n m o t i o n of Mr. G r a h a m , it was voted t h a t w h e n t h e B o a r d a d j o u r n e d at t h e close of t h e afternoon session, it s h o u l d a d j o u r n t o meet at t h e Beardsley, i n C h a m p a i g n , at 8 o'clock p . m.

LIBRARY BUILDING.

Professor R i c k e r s t a t e d t h a t in t h e o p i n i o n of t h e a r c h i t e c t s of t h e l i b r a r y b u i l d i n g t h e best course for t h e B o a r d to take, i n view of t h e results of t h e b i d d i n g , was to use b u t one stone for t h e exterior, i n t h e c o n s t r u c t i o n of t h e b u i l d i n g . T h e r e c o m m e n d a t i o n was adopted. O n m o t i o n of Mr. B u l l a r d , it was voted to accept t h e second p r o p o sition of t h e H . M. R. C o n s t r u c t i o n Co., of Chicago, to-wit: " T o erect t h e proposed l i b r a r y b u i l d i n g for t h e U n i v e r s i t y of Illinois, t h e b u i l d i n g to b e c o m p l e t e d in accordance w i t h p l a n s a n d specifications, as p r e s e n t e d b y Messrs. R i c k e r & W h i t e , a r c h i t e c t s , a n d entire exterior of t h e b u i l d i n g to be finished in K e t t l e R i v e r s a n d s t o n e for t h e s u m of one h u n d r e d a n d thirty-five t h o u s a n d dollars." I t was also voted to accept t h e p r o p o s i t i o n of t h e said H . M . R . C o n s t r u c t i o n Co., to r e d u c e t h e a m o u n t above n a m e d by four t h o u -
