I n t h e i n v e s t i g a t i o n of t h e finances of t h e i n s t i t u t i o n it was developed t h a t certain expenses, i n c l u d i n g t h e r e n t of t h e b u i l d i n g s , t h e salaries of t h e A c t u a r y a n d j a n i t o r for t h e m o n t h of A p r i l , as well as some o t h e r small items, a g g r e g a t i n g some $800.00, were yet u n p a i d . T h e T r u s t e e s of t h e College explained t h a t it was c u s t o m a r y to borrow m o n e y d u r i n g t h e vacation to meet r u n n i n g expenses, which was repaid from t u i t i o n fees in t h e fall. T h e c o m m i t t e e , however, declined to accept t h e i n d e b t e d n e s s , b u t p r o m i s e d to s u b m i t t h e m a t t e r to t h e B o a r d of T r u s t e e s of t h e U n i v e r s i t y . T h e T r u s t e e s of t h e College of P h a r m a c y agreed to p a y t h e same if t h e B o a r d of T r u s t e e s of t h e U n i v e r s i t y declined to do so. T h e r e u p o n , deeds of t h e real estate b e l o n g i n g to t h e College of P h a r m a c y a n d transfer of all personal p r o p e r t y of t h e i n s t i t u t i o n , were passed to t h e c o m m i t t e e a n d accepted b y t h e m in behalf of t h e U n i versity. T h e c o m m i t t e e r e c o m m e n d e d t h a t t h e B o a r d of T r u s t e e s of t h e U n i v e r s i t y assume t h e i n d e b t e d n e s s referred to a n d t h a t t h e i r acts in a c c e p t i n g t h e p r o p e r t y s h o u l d b e confirmed. T h e following resolutions were a d o p t e d : Resolved, That the action of the special committee appointed by this Board at the last meeting to attend to the details touching* the transfer of the Chicago College of Pharmacy to the University, is hereby approved, and such transfer is hereby ratified and confirmed. Resolved, That the Business Manager of the University be, and he is hereby instructed to settle all claims accruing in the month of April for expenses of such College of Pharmacy, and that he shall make provisions in his University estimates for other running expenses, and that he take general charge of the business affairs of the institution. Resolved, That the Chicago College of Pharmacy be hereafter styled The School of Pharmacy of the University of Illinois, but that the original name be continued for some time upon the signs, stationery, and publications thereof. Resolved, Tljat Mr. W. B. Day be continued for the time being as Actuary, at a salary of $75 per month, and that Mr. H. Eulert be continued as" janitor of the building at $50 per month. Mesolved, That Mr. Frederick M. Goodman be appointed as Professor of Materia Medica and Botany and Director of the Microscopic Laboratory; that S. N. Hallberg be appointed Professor of Pharmacy and Director of the Dispensing Laboratory; that William A. Puckner be appointed Professor of Physics and Chemistry and Director of the Chemical Laboratory; and that Frank S. Hereth be appointed Director of the Pharmaceutical Laboratory; that the said professors be paid the sum of $4,500 jointly for their services . during the next year; and should the receipts of the said school from tuition fees exceeds $12,000 in the course of the year they shall be paid jointly onehalf of the excess over $12,000, provided that they shall employ and pay such assistants as in the judgment of the President of the University shall be necessary to carry on properly the work of the school; but the tuition fees of one student may be remitted for services rendered to the faculty. No part of the pay of said professors shall be due and payable, however, except out of the tuition fees and after the same have been received by said school. Mesolved, That the Chairman and Secretary of the Board of Trustees be and they are hereby authorized to execute a lease with the owners of the building in which the School of Pharmacy is maintained at 465-67 State street, Chicago, for the term of one year, from the first of May last, at a monthly rental - of $300.
