The board met pursuant to adjournment. The finance committee made t h e following report, which was approved :

CHICAGO, July 6, 1893.

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, GENTLEMEN: Your finance committee recommends t h a t t h e sum of $5,000 be appropriated for library purposes from t h e state appropriation for current expenses, as indicated in t h e report of t h e committee on legislation made at t h e meeting of Dec. 13, 1892, t h e same to be expended under t h e direction of t h e committee on library. On motion of Mr. Armstrong, i t was voted t h a t t h e committee on buildings and grounds be authorized to select t h e site for t h e new engineering hall. The committee on buildings and grounds, to which was referred certain proposed changes in t h e chemical laboratory, was given authority to expend such sums of money as might be required to make t h e changes i t found necessary. The finance committee made t h e following report, which was approved:

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: Your committee recommends an appropriation of $800 from state funds for the purpose of purchasing apparatus to be used in t h e psychological laboratory, t h e sum to be expended under t h e direction of t h e regent, t h e business agent and Professor Krohn. m On motion of Mr. Armstrong, it was voted t h a t t h e professor of zoology and entomology should hereafter be styled professor of zoology. Mr. Bullard moved t h a t $1,100 be appropriated to defray expenses of lectures on literary and scientific subjects, on strictly educational lines, and t h a t t h e amount be expended under t h e direction of t h e regent and the deans. The motion was lost. On motion of Mr. Morrison, it was voted t h a t t h e committee which was appointed at t h e meeting of June 6th and was put in charge of t h e exhibit from the mechanical department of t h e University a t t h e World's Fair, be authorized t o employ Mr. Bernard Y. Swenson to take charge of said exhibit, and to pay him not to exceed $85 a month for such -service. Mr. Morrison moved t h a t a woman be appointed, a t a salary not exceeding $1,500 a year, as an instructor for the young women of t h e University in elocution and physical culture. Carried. The finance committee made t h e following report, which was approved:
