UNIVERSITY O F ILLINOIS.

On motion of Mr. R a a b , $700 was appropriated from t h e EL S. fund for the purchase of a B u r k h a r d ' s T h o m a s ' s c o m p u t i n g machine and of a p p a r a t u s for the college of engineering, as requested; the a m o u n t t o be expended by the Business Agent a n d Professor Kicker. On motion of Mr. R a a b , $2,000 was appropriated from t h e U. S. fund for the purchase for library of books useful in " i n struction in agriculture, the mechanic a r t s , the English language, and the various branches of mathematical, physical, n a t u r a l , and economic science, with special reference t o their applications in the industries of life." F o r chairs and other furniture needed in the Regent's office and the University parlor, $150 was appropriated from current funds on motion of Mr. R a a b . On motion of Mr. Graham, $50 from the U. S. fund was a p propriated for making wax models of fruit. On motion of Mr. R a a b , $460 was appropriated from t h e U. S. fund, and $300 from current funds t o meet the requests of the chemical department, t o be expended by the Business Agent and Professors Palmer a n d P a r r . F o r the purchase of additional a p p a r a t u s and a set of bridge joints for use in t h e d e p a r t m e n t of civil engineering, $955 from the U S. fund was appropriated on motion of Mr. R a a b , t o be expended by Professor Baker and the Business Agent. I t was voted t h a t , in view of t h e publication made in t h e catalogue, it would not be just t o change the a m o u n t of t h e music fees for this year. The Committee on Instruction was directed t o confer with Miss Kimball, instructor in music, and report t o the B o a r d a t the next regular meeting what changes should be made in regard t o music in the next catalogue. The m a t t e r of a sidewalk on the south side of Green street was referred t o the Committee on Buildings and Grounds for investigation, and report a t the next meeting. The Board voted t h a t t h e University should make an exhibit a t the World's Columbian Exposition, and t h a t the m a t t e r of outlining such exhibit and determining its character and extent be referred t o the Faculty, t o be reported upon a t the next regular meeting of the Board, or t o the Executive Committee of the Board, if necessity should arise for earlier action. P a p e r A, submitted in the report of the Experiment S t a t i o n , was referred t o the Committee on Finance. On motion of Mr. Shawhan, t h e report of the Agricultural Experiment Station was approved for record, and appropriations of S t a t i o n funds were made as asked in t h a t report. The m a t t e r of securing a professor of mechanical engineering was referred t o the Regent and the Committee on Instruction, with power t o act in conjunction with Executive Committee of t h e Board.
