BIDS FOR T H E N E W BUILDING.

To the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. GENTLEMEN: Your Committee on Buildings and Grounds begs leave to report t h a t the drawings and specifications for the new natural science building were completed by t h e architect and t h a t proposals were called for to be in the hands of the Secretary of the Board September 7th. Three proposals were received for t h e construction for the complete work as specified, one for t h e excavation alone, one for stone and brick masonry alone, two for slate and metal work alone, and one for plastering alone. The architect's estimate of t h e cost of t h e building was $60,000. The bids for t h e complete work were too high, running considerably over the appropriation. There were not enough of t h e partial bids to cover all ot t h e work had they been united. After due consideration of t h e matter your Committee recommends t h a t all bids received be rejected, t h a t new bids be requested for t h e building in accordance with t h e amended drawings and specifications herewith submitted; t h a t each contractor from whom bids have been received be notified in writing of this action, and t h a t t h e new bids be received until noon of Monday, Sept. 21, 1891, and be opened a t 2 p. m. on the same day. Respectfully submitted,

S. A. B U L L A R D , I Committee on N E L S O N W. GRAHAM, f Buildings and Grounds.

The report of the committee was approved on motion of Mr. Cobb. The Board then, on recommendation of the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, ordered that a warrant for $750 be drawn in favor of Professor Kicker for services as architect. The Board also appropriated $50, to be used, so far as may be needed, in payment of bills for advertising for proposals for the new building.
