versity should remit the deduction of three hundred eight dollars ($308.00), which was made by the purchasing agent because of the failure of the coal furnished to equal in every respect the requirements of the specifications. Respectfully submitted,

On motion of Mr. Hatch the report was adopted. The vote was as follows: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Grout, Mr. Hatch, Mr. Moore; no, Mrs. Bahrenburg; absent, Mr. Crebs, Governor Deneen, Mr. Meeker. The board adjourned to meet in the same place at 4:15 p. m.

Afternoon Session, October 15, 1910.

At the meeting in the afternoon, the following members were prese n t : President Abbott, Mrs. Bahrenburg, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Grout, Mr. Hatch. President James was also present. The President of the University presented the following matters for consideration: Y. M. C. A. SCHOLARSHIP IN MEDICINE. 1. A request from the general secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association of Chicago, Mr. L. Wilbur Messer, asking that the University assign a scholarship in the College of Medicine for the use of the young man who is assigned to the charge of the reading room furnished and maintained by the Young Men's Christian Association at the University Medical School. I t was voted t h a t the President of the University be authorized to assign such a scholarship. STATE WATER SURVEY. 2. A request from the director of the State Water Survey, Dr. Edward Bartow, that the money given by the State Board of Health to the University for cooperative work in public sanitation, amounting to five hundred ($500.00) a year, be appropriated to the use of the Water Survey. I t was voted t h a t t h i s . appropriation be made. 3. A further request from the director of the State Water Survey that the fees received for making analyses of water from July 1, 1910, to June 30, 1911, be appropriated to the use of the Water Survey, to pay for such extra labor as may be needed for clerical work, and for service, supplies, printing, etc. I t was voted that this appropriation be made. 4. A further recommendation from the director of the State Water Survey that, owing to the decrease in the amount appropriated by the Legislature for the work of the Water Survey, fees be charged for water analysis, both sanitary and mineral, except that water collected by, or under the direction of, the State Board of Health be analyzed free of charge, according to the agreement between the State Water Survey and the Board of Health; and that the fees for such service be fixed as follows:
