The recommendations of the Senate Committee call, however, if carried, into effect, for a large expenditure of money which is not at present available, but which, in the opinion of the committee, it is desirable to ask from the Legislature. , After full consideration it was unanimously voted that the committee recommend to the Board of Trustees of the University: First—That the University Academy be discontinued at the close of the present academic year, 1910-11. Second-—That the trustees of the University ask the next Legislature for the sum of two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000.00) for the erection of a separate building for the School of Education, which shall also contain provision for the model high school recommended by the Senate and endorsed by the committee. Special Committee. Mr. Blair moved the adoption of the first recommendation, t h a t the University Academy be discontinued at the close, of the present academic year^ 1910-11. The recommendation was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mr. Abbott, Mrs. Bahrenburg, Mr. Blair, Mrs. Busey, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Grout, Mr. Hatch, Mr. Moore; noes, n o n e ; absent, Mr. Crebs, Governor Deneen, Mr. Meeker. On motion of Mrs. Busey, the consideration of the second recommendation, concerning an appropriation of two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) to be asked from the next General Assembly for a separate building for the School of Education, was postponed until a later meeting of the board.

THE FRANCIS J. PLTM FELLOWSHIP I N ARCHITECTURE.

The President of the University presented the following letter from Mr. Francis J . Plym, of M i e s , Michigan, a graduate of the University of the class of 1897:

URBANA-CHAMPAIGN, I I I . , Oct. 15, 1910.

To the Trustees of the University of Illinois: GENTLEMEN—In consideration of the great advantages which I received from the University of Illinois as a student, in testimony of my appreciation of this service, and because of my desire to do what I may in order to make the work of this institution more effective, I beg leave to offer to the University of Illinois the sum of $1,000.00 per annum for the term of five (5) years, in order to establish a fellowship for the advanced study of architecture, which fellowship shall be assigned under rules and regulations which may be adopted by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois. I t was voted t h a t the trustees accept the offer of Mr. Plym, and that the President of the University be instructed to express the thanks of the board in a formal letter to Mr. Plym. I t was voted further t h a t the name of the fellowship be the Francis J . Plym Fellowship in Architecture. Mr. Plym was introduced and was presented to the members of the board.
