MESSRS. ZOLLER AND DUPRAY RELIEVED FROM PAYMENT OP FEES. (3) A recommendation that the incidental and laboratory fees charged Mr. Harper F. Zoller, research assistant in the Department of Astronomy, and Mr. Martin Dupray, laboratory assistant in the Department of Botany (bacteriology), be added to the .salaries of these two men, and that the amounts be charged respectively to the Department of Astronomy and to the fund provided by the Illinois State Canners' Association. The vice president explained t h a t Messrs. Zoller . and Dupray had accepted their appointments and come to the University on the understanding, for which the heads of their respective departments were responsible, t h a t they would not be required to pay the incidental and laboratory fees* t h a t this would have been the case under the rules of the board if they had been able to enter the Graduate school as was anticipated; that after they had come to Urbana it was found that their .previous work was not sufficient to admit them to the Graduate school; and that the apparent equity in these two cases arises from the fact that the regulations applying to their cases were not fully, explained to them in advance, but that they were simply given to understand, without qualification, that they would not have these fees to pay. The recommendation of the vice president was approved. READJUSTMENTS IN THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE BUDGET. (4) Recommendations from Dr. W. E. Quine, dean of the College of Medicine, that the following adjustments be made in the budget of that college. . (a) That the following rearrangement be made of appointments and salaries in the Department of Anatomy. L. C. Borland, M.D., professor of Anatomy, $130.00 a month for eight months $1,040 00 E. R. Hayhurst, A.B., M.D., instructor in Anatomy, for teaching visceral anatomy, $37.50 a month for eight months 300' 00 E. R. Hayhurst, A.B., M.D., instructor in Anatomy, for teaching nervous anatomy, $37.50 a month for eight months 300 00 W. C. Smith, M.D., instructor and demonstrator in Anatomy, at $50.00 a month for eight months 400 00 R. R. Rupert, student assistant in Anatomy, at $50.00 a month for eight months '..*... 400 00 Total •, $2,440 00 The total of the proposed salaries is $100.00 less than that named in the budget. President James has expressed approval of the appointment of Drs. Borland and Hayhurst to these positions. (b) That the name of Walter Clinton Jones, A.M., M.D., be added to the faculty of the Senior College with the title of assistant professor of Surgical Pathology; his salary to remain $200.00 for the year, as provided in the budget (page 497). (c). That the sum of $240.00 be added to the $360.00 provided in the budget (page 497), making a total amount of $600.00, for the salary of" the assistant to the curator;' the object of this increase being to provide for a regular assistant on full time instead of a student assistant., (d) That Dr. Solomon P. Starr be appointed to the vacant position of demonstrator in the Operative Department in the College of Dentistry, vice H. D. Jones, at a salary of $600.00 for the .academic year, as provided in the budget (page 497);. • " "\ (e) That the salary of.
