•contractor, to have stone curbing put in instead of wood as contemplated by the city ordinance, and to have the work put in satisfactorily in every way. This arrangement has been made, and contracts will be submitted to the Board at this meeting for this work. Bridge across Silver CreeJc—Your Committee asked Professor Baker to submit a plan or design for a bridge across Silver Creek at Burrill Avenue. The bridge was to be of the width necessary for a pavement on Burrill Avenue, should the paving of Burrill Avenue be consummated. They amount of money to be used in the construction of this bridge was $500.00, appropriated by the Legislature. The prelfminary estimates went to show that such a bridge as we thought desirable for the place, together with abutments for the same, could not be built for the money appropriated. Therefore your Committee asked Professor Baker to get further bids on the work and see if it were possible to reduce the cost to the amount of money we have for this improvement. This matter has not seemed urgent and your Committee may not complete the bridge before next year. Protection of Water Fixtures—It was reported to your Committee by Professor Talbot that it would be desirable to protect the water fixtures in the engineering building from damage by high pressure, which is considerable during the time of a fire, by putting in valves whereby the plumbing fixtures can be cut off from the water supply pipes and yet admit the water to the standpipes in the building. Your Committee, therefore,, ordered that change to be made at an estimated cost of $30.00 to $35.00. This we feel was necessary to protect the fixtures and give the best water service to the building. Ventilators for the Basement of Military Hall—It was reported to your Committee by Professors Ricker and White that the floor of Military Hall is rapidly decaying and in some places already injured beyond repair. I The cause of this rapid decay is the insufficient ventilation of the space beneath the floor. We, therefore, asked Professor Ricker to obtain proposals for putting in ventilators large enough and sufficient in number for that purpose. It was ascertained that eight ventilators could be put in, two on each of the four sides, for $64.00 and your Committee ordered the word done. This we believe will have the effect of stopping any further rapid decay in the floor of that building. It should have been done years ago. The oversight was made in the construction of the building, Professor Ricker says, by setting the floor down lower than originally contemplated and practically closing the openings that were originally intended for ventilating purposes. We are thus now tardily doing what the first plans for the building called for. Respectfully submitted,
