The contract was given to the National Water Tube Boiler Co., the boiler to be put in as soon as the new boiler house is ready to receive it. Coal and Ashes Handling Machinery and Storage for Coal—It was the purpose to make preparations tor the storage of 500 tons of COJII. Plans Vere prepared and bids were asked for the putting' in of bius for this storage and for machinery for handling coal and ashes. Bids were received as follows:

Link Belt Machinery Co., Chicago, 111 Jeffry Mfg. Co., Columbus, Ohio : $5.350 00* 5.350 00

The contract was awarded to the Link Belt Machinery Co., at its bid, after duly considering the quality of the machinery proposed to be put in. This will be put in at a time suitable, so that it will be ready for use b.y the first of December. Heating the Engine and Dynamo House—Bids we>e received for putting in heating apparatus for this building, as follows:

The contract was awarded to Hubbard & Sons. Laying Water Main—The committee ordered the laying of a 6 inch water main from the connection on Springfield avenue south on Burrill avenue to Green street, and a fire hydrant placed on this line south of the creek. From this 6-inch line a 4-inch pipe is to be laid east into the boiler house to furnish water to the heating apparatus. This work is to be done under the direction of Professor Talbot and as cheaply as the work can be secured. Cement Walks—The committee laid out plans for hew and additional concrete walks necessary for our grounds and contracted with Mr. P. E. Taintor, of Springfield, who did work for us last year. Contracts were made at 15cents per square foot. These walks are down and are very satisfactory. Gymnasium—Soon after the adjournment of ^ the June meeting of the Board the committee took up the question of making suitable accommodations in bath rooms and lockers for the athletic and gymnasium department for which an appropriation of $3,000 was obtained from the legislature. After having several plans and schemes for enlarging and adding to the present military building, providing for bath rooms, lockers, waiting rooms, etc., prepared by Professor Ricker and estimates made thereon, your committee could not get what would be at all adequate to the necessities of the case for the amount ofmoney at command. The matter was brought to the attention of the ExecutiveCommittee and that committee asked to enlarge the appropriation. This, however, was deemed unwise by the Executive Committee, and the additional money, some $2,200.00, was not provided for. It was, therefore, thought best by the committee to lay the improvement aside till the matter could be discussed by the board. Paving University Avenue and around the Campus—Yo'ur Committee asked Professor Talbot to look after the interests of the University in paving University Avenue and the street east of our campus in conjunction with the city of Urbana, and in accordance with an ordinance passed by the Urbana city council. It was thought best to have our contract made directly with the;
