Your committee having first ascertained t h a t t h e contract had not been recorded, accepted t h e surrender subject to t h e approval of t h e Board. Upon request of Professor Forbes, after explanation made by him, t h e appropriation of $200 from t h e State Laboratory of Natural History funds for t h e payment of Mr. Frank Smith, asssistant zoologist, was made $400. (See page 260.) The board then adjourned to meet at 8 o'clock p. m. EVENING SESSION. The same members were present as in t h e afternoon, with t h e exception of Governor Altgeld. Upon recommendation of t h e finance committee, the bill of t h e treasurer, Mr. Spalding, for traveling expenses, stationery, and other incidentals, amounting to $116.72, was ordered paid from current funds.
