Reverend David B, Kin.sh, O.S.B., librarian of the Abbey Library Atchison talked on "Why the r ;ional meeting for college libraries" at the meeting o ! the Catholic colleges and schools in Leavenworth, Kan., January 31st Donald W. Kohlstedt, librarian of the Public Library, Kansas City Kansas began reference service over the radio last fall. People were to send'in questions and he would answer them, giving sources over the radio. H e also talked on "The library's part in general education" before the general meeting of the Kansas Library Association last October. Clarice Krieg, of the catalog department of the University of Iowa libraries, presided over the meeting of the Junior Group of the Iowa Library Association which met in Des Moines on November 4, 1936. Miss Krieg was also appointed to the membership committee of the Iowa Library Association, and elected president of the Iowa City Library Club. Elva Krogh, W o r k s Progress Administration, Division of Research Statistics and Records, has assisted in the preparation of a publication called, "Research library abstracts," which appears as a serial publication [mimeographed ]. Anne F. Leidendecker, librarian of the Science and Industry Department of the Los Angeles Public Library, was chairman of the coordinating committee of the Union List of Serials of the Southern district of the California Library Association. At their meeting in November, she announced the publication of the "Union list of newspapers in the publishers offices and libraries of Southern California." Lucy M. Lewis, librarian of the State College Library, director of libraries of higher education in Oregon and president of the Pacific Northwest Library Association, also presided over a conference on the establishment of a bibliographical center for the Pacific Northwest, which was held last November in Portland. Margaret Mann, professor of library science at the University of Michigan, read a paper before the Catalog Section of the A.L.A. on "The new theory of cataloging." This appeared in an abridged form in the A.L.A. Conference Proceedings, p. 671-72. Jim P. Matthews, librarian of the University of Arkansas, was vice-president for Arkansas of the Southwestern Library Association, and made the response to the address of welcome at the opening session of that association meeting in October. Alexander D. Moffit, associate librarian of the University of Texas, was recently elected treasurer of the Southwestern Library Association. Lena Nofcier, secretary of the Kentucky Library Commission, in cooperation with the Kentucky State Home Economics Extension department, gave a series of ten lectures to the County Home Demonstration Agents which were designed to furnish a picture of the field of literature as a whole and to emphasize reading for pleasure in the home. Norman, librarian of the Peoples Gas Company, Chicago, was elected chairman of the Business and Technology Section of the A.L.A. for this year Downing P O ' H a r r a was elected vice-president of the Kansas Library lUsceiation for 1936-37. He also gave a review of The Library by Douglas Iplcs, before one of the meetings in October Sister Mary Mark Orr, librarian at St. M a r y s College, Leavenworth, Kan., Hided over the regional meeting of librarians oi Catholic colleges and hools in Missouri and Kansas January 31st. This was the first meeting of I kind and was called by Sister Mary Mark. Plans tor future meetings were £»de. Sister Mary Mark" also attended the midwinter meeting ot the Catholic rary Association and the A.L.A. in Chicago.
