BOARD OF TRUSTEES

[February 23

On motion of Mrs. Watkins, this contract was awarded and the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board were authorized to execute the same.

CONTRACT FOR ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES AT THE CHICAGO PROFESSIONAL COLLEGES (13) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend a contract with Pace Associates, Chicago, for architectural work at the Chicago Professional Colleges to prepare plans and drawings of plans for: a. Enclosing stairways in the Dentistry-Medicine-Pharmacy Building to conform with the City of Chicago Fire Code. b. Remodeling space vacated by departments which will move into the addition to the Research and Educational Hospitals and into the East DentistryMedicine-Pharmacy Building. T h e estimated cost is approximately $55,000. Charges for work will be based on the actual time payments to the staff of Pace Associates at the following rates: Architect-Planner $6.00 per hour Senior Architectural Draftsman $3.00 to $3.50 per hour Structural Engineering Designer 1 Mechanical Engineering Designer \ $3.50 to $4.50 per hour Electrical Engineering Designer J Chief Mechanical Engineer $5.00 per hour Senior Engineering Draftsman $2.50 to $3.50 per hour T o these charges will be added loo per cent for overhead costs. T h e contract will stipulate that the charges for the work may not exceed $55,000 without approval from the University. This proposal from Pace Associates is similar to that made on work which they performed for the University previously and is in line with prevailing charges of architectural firms in the Chicago area. Pace Associates are familiar with the Dentistry-Medicine-Pharmacy Building, having made a complete survey of usage of the building in 1947, and this experience will expedite the work. Funds are available in the Physical Plant Department budget for item "a" and in the reassignment of funds budgeted for the operation of the Research and Educational Hospitals authorized by the Board of Trustees on January 21, 1953, for item "b." I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract with Pace Associates.
