BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The West two (2) rods of the Southeast quarter of the Southwest quarter and the South Half of the Southwest quarter of the Southwest quarter except one (1) acre in the Southwest corner thereof, all in Section I, Township 19, North, Range 9 East of the Third Principal Meridian in the County of Champaign and State of Illinois. I recommend approval with the understanding that the easement include adequate provision to protect the University in the event of damage to its property or for any public liability.

On motion of Mr. Nickell, this matter was referred to the Executive Committee with power to act.

CONTRACTS FOR ILL1NI HALL IMPROVEMENTS (5) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of contracts for remodeling in Mini Hall for safety and other improvements to the following lowest bidders: General — E. N, DeAtley, Champaign $93 000 Plumbing — Reliable Plumbing and Heating Company, Champaign 7 360 Heating, Ventilating, and Temperature Control — F. R. Inskip and Company, Champaign 12 590 Electrical — Leverenz Electric Company, Danville II 405 The work to be covered by these contracts is as follows: Complete reconstruction of the north and south stairs, including construction of new fireproof stair towers to provide safe exits from all floors; reconstruction of two toilet rooms required by the construction of the stair towers. Modernization of basement areas occupied by the Mini Publishing Company, including installation of improved ventilating and lighting systems. Remodeling areas in the northeast corner of the first floor and northwest corner of the basement to provide for interchange in use of these areas. Additional improvements requested by the Mini Publishing Company for which the Company will pay, including: a new furred plastic ceiling over the general office area in the basement; additional office partitions and a public reception counter; relocation of type melting furnace; and glazed tiling of walls bounding the general area occupied by Company offices. It is further recommended that these improvements be paid for from the following sources of funds: State appropriation "For, remodeling, modernization, and improvement of existing buildings at Urbana-Champaign, including water reclamation installations, plans and specifications and fixed equipment installed relating thereto" subject to release by the Governor $124 600 Funds already set up in the Physical Plant Department budget for 19521953 for moves of administrative offices 14 500 Mini Publishing Company 6 300 Housing Division income from rental paid by Mini Publishing Company for basement space 4 350 Total I concur in these recommendations. $149 750

On motion of Mr. Johnston, these contracts were awarded as recommended.

CONTRACT FOR ELECTRICAL WORK ON WATER RECLAMATION INSTALLATIONS IN REFRIGERATION EQUIPMENT IN DAIRY MANUFACTURES BUILDING AND SKATING RINK (6) The Board of Trustees on July 16, 1952, authorized contracts for water reclamation installations in the refrigeration equipment in the Dairy Manufactures Building, the Horticulture Field Laboratory, and the Skating Rink. Contracts totaling $5,792 for the electrical work on the Dairy Manufactures Building and Skating Rink installations were awarded to the Brunkow Electric Company, Champaign, the lowest bidder. The Company was promptly notified of this award and in due time received a formal contract. On September 25, without any prior notice of such intent, the University learned that the Company would not proceed
