Nonacademic staff for Air Force Science, Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations, and School of Social Work. Wages, expense and equipment $29,075, chiefly in Institute of Aviation, Small Homes Council, and Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations. Administration and General. Original request: $63,673. Academic staff of 7 in Student Counseling Bureau, Health Service, and the Office of Dean of Women. Nonacademic staff of 9 including 4 in Business Office, 2 in Admissions and Records, 1 each in the Offices of Nonacademic Personnel, Dean of Men, and Health Service. Wages, expense and equipment, $29,968, principally in the Business Office, Dean of Students, and Admissions and Records. Discontinuation of the appropriation for the Merit Board of $25,720 makes a net decrease in wages, expense, and equipment of $15,752. Library. Original request: $155,310. Academic staff of 54, primarily to provide for increased enrollment, to staff the hospital addition, expand research, initiate curriculum in physical therapy. Nonacademic staff of 23, principally in the laboratories, clinics, and medical social work. Dentistry. Original request: $69,680. Academic staff of 12, to provide for increased enrollment. Nonacademic staff of 5 in the clinics needed to service increased enrollment. Wages, expense and equipment $16,180—increases in all departments. Pharmacy. Original request: $82,090. Academic staff of 12 persons. Nonacademic staff of 6 to service increased enrollment in 1954-55. Wages, expense and equipment, $14,490. Nursing. Original request: $94,000. Academic staff of 4 to develop a program in nursing during second year of biennium. Wages, expense and equipment in the amount of $65,000, for housing of nursesin second year. Research and Educational Hospitals. Original request: $387,935. The 195^-53 budget does not provide for a complete staffing of the entire hospital addition. Certain areas were not included in the 1951-53 requests, while others had to be deferred to provide funds for salary increases for the nursing staff. Requests include $45,000 to operate the Illinois Neuropsychiatry Institute. Physical Plant. Original request: $145,108 ($368,108 less $223,000). To operate the East D M P Building, $282,729 a year. To restore renewal and replacement items deleted from 1952-53 budget and provide for material price increases, $85,379. As provided in the bond issue, $223,000 is transferred to trust funds for operation of the first D M P Building. Other Divisions. Original request: $83,788. Academic staff of 4.75 in the Health Service, Office of Dean of Students, Library, and Institution for Tuberculosis Research.
