BRIEF SUMMARY OF INCREASES REQUESTED FOR GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

(All figures are on an annual basis) Urbana-Champaign Liberal Arts and Sciences. Original request: $330,044. Additional teaching staff of 51 in the Departments of English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Speech, Physiology, French, Spanish and Italian, and History. Major expansion of program leading to the doctorate in applied statistics, a new program of experimental social psychology, and the further development of a Children's Theater for the training of teachers of dramatics. One nonacademic staff member in each of these areas, viz., Entomology, Mathematics, Physiology, and Museum of Natural History. Wages, expense and equipment, in the amount of $93,100, for the Departments of Chemistry, Bacteriology, Botany, Geology, and Physiology. Agriculture. Original request: $917,111. Academic staff additions amounting to 51 for all departments, with special emphasis on basic revisions of the entire program in Agronomy. Also, further development of the artificial insemination research in Dairy Science, and added strength in food chemistry, cereal technology, nursery management, vegetable crops, home management, textiles, nutrition and parent education. As an item of public policy, it may become necessary to provide funds for the complete program of Farm and Home Advisers in the amount of $455,316 to replace amounts paid by local Farm and Home Bureaus. Illinois is one of the few states which docs not pay the entire salary of extension staff from state and federal funds and which does not, therefore, exercise complete control over the operation. Nonacademic staff of 10, principally in Dairy Science, but also in Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, Food Technology, Horticulture, and Home Economics. Wages, expense and equipment increases of $108,150 distributed among all departments.

Increase of $55,725 first year, $9,800 second year, or $121,250 for the Increase of $69,800 requested for the second year of the biennium. Increase of $94,000 requested for the second year of the biennium. There is also a reduction of $200,000 a year as a result of not opening Service, the 7th and n t h floors, applied against the funds previously reserved pital addition on a recurring basis. 6 Increase of $57,810 first year, $204,654 second year, or $320,274 for the
