APPROPRIATIONS BY THE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (11) Appropriations approved by the Board of Directors of the Athletic Association for the following purposes are submitted for confirmation: 1. Purchase of ice skating equipment (shoes, skates, sharpeners) $1 900 2. Purchase and installation of food service equipment formerly in the Illini Union Coffee House to be used by the Athletic Association food service at the Stadium 3 800 3. PROPERTY TAXES ON MEDICAL CENTER STEAM PLANT (12) The agreement between the University and the Medical Center Steam Company provides that the operating charge of the Medical Center Steam Company shall include real estate and personal property taxes assessed against its property. On February 16, 1950, the Board requested that the tax status of the property be referred to the law firm of Chapman and Cutler, Chicago, for study. Chapman and Cutler reported to the University Legal Counsel that when the University actually acquires legal or equitable title to or gains exclusive use and possession of the property of the Medical Center Steam Company the property will be exempt from taxation. Under the terms of the contract this will ultimately take place. The steam plant went into operation the middle of 1951 and, on the basis of assessments of its real and personal property, it is estimated that the Company will pay general property taxes of approximately $50,000 for the year 1952. The Company and University officers concerned regard this assessment as reasonable and satisfactory. This report w a s received for record. CONTRACT FOR MACHINE SHEDS ON ALLERTON FARMS (13) The Dean of the College of Agriculture and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $7,965.64 to the Wilkinson Company, Cisco, the lowest bidder, for the construction of machine sheds on Allerton Farms Nos. 3 and 6. The shed on F a r m No. 6 was destroyed by fire when struck by lightning on September 19, 1952. T h e shed on F a r m No. 3 is inadequate in size and is in poor
