34 BOARD O F TRUSTEES [July 16 REPORT OF T H E COMPTROLLER A N D SECRETARY O N AGREEMENT WITH TEXAS OIL COMPANY O n M a y 18, 1951, the Board of Trustees authorized the execution of a "nondevelopment" agreement with t h e T e x a s Oil Company for mutual protection u n d e r which t h e University would agree not to execute any oil or gas leases, or permit drilling for oil or gas, on its experiment field in Saline County, Illinois, and the Company would agree to protect the University's experimental work from oil developments on areas s u r r o u n d i n g the field. O n advice of the Legal Counsel's office, some additions were made to the agreement in the interest of better protection of the experiment field. T h e Company has declined to sign an agreement with these protective provisions and, therefore, no action will be taken on the Board's authorization of M a y 18, 1951. W a t k i n s , for the Committee on the Chicago Departments, r e ported on plans for a n "Appreciation D a y " for members of the Sixtyseventh General Assembly of Illinois on Friday, September 12, 1952. T h e plans include inspection of the Chicago Professional Colleges a n d the Chicago U n d e r g r a d u a t e Division. S h e stated that all members of the B o a r d of Trustees will receive letters announcing the plans a n d p r o g r a m of this event, a n d asked that as many of t h e m as can do so participate in this event. O n motion of M r s . W a t k i n s , this event was authorized.
