BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Condensing equipment — Worthington Corporation, Chicago (lowest bidder) 35 950 Contract price subject to adjustment to current prices at time of delivery but not to exceed 10 per cent increase. Cooling tower — Fluor Corporation Ltd., Chicago 40 437 Switchgear — Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company, Chicago (only bidder meeting requirements) 27 48c Contract price subject to adjustment to current prices at time of delivery but not to exceed 10 per cent increase. Competitive bids were taken on all of this equipment and in each case the contract recommended represents the lowest cost to the University. Funds are available for this in the state appropriation made to the University for I953-I9S5 for capital improvements subject to release by the Governor. I concur and recommend that the Acting Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute these contracts subject to release of funds.

On motion of Mr. Johnston, these contracts were awarded and authority was given as recommended.

WESLEY FOUNDATION PROPERTY Mr. Megran, for the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, reporting on the status of negotiations with representatives of the Wesley Foundation for the purchase of some of its property adjoining University property in the block bounded by Green Street, Goodwin Avenue, Illinois Street, and Mathews Avenue in Urbana, stated that a mutually satisfactory agreement has been reached on the division of the block whereby, if the University acquires the property it needs, any buildings it constructs in this area will be 75 feet south of the east-west center line of said block. H e requested instructions from the Board as to further procedure in the negotiations.

President Livingston suggested that the Board may wish to appoint a special committee to continue the negotiations with the Wesley Foundation. On motion of Mrs. Holt, the following were appointed a special committee empowered to represent the Board of Trustees in continuing these negotiations: Messrs. Megran, Chairman, Bissell, Johnston, and Nickell.

CONSTRUCTION PERMIT FOR TELEVISION STATION

The Acting President reported that information has been received from the University's special counsel in New York representing it before the Federal Communications Commission that the Commission has granted the University a permit for the construction of an educational television station at Urbana-Champaign.
