The Board took up consideration of the following reports and recommendations from the President of the University.

AWARD OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT CERTIFICATES (1) The Committee on Accountancy recommends that the certificate of Certified Public Accountant be awarded, under Section 5 of the Accountancy Act of Ip43( to the following candidates who have presented evidence that they are holders of valid and unrevoked Certified Public Accountant certificates obtained by passing a standard written examination in another state or territory of the United States and who qualify in all other respects under this provision of the law. DIRECTORSHIP OF T H E SMALL HOMES COUNCIL (2) The Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts recommends the appointment of Rudard A. Jones, Research Professor of Architecture and Assistant Director of the Small Homes Council, as Research Professor on indefinite tenure and Director of the Small Homes Council for the period October 1, 1957, through August 31, 1959, at an annual salary of $12,000 on "Y" basis. This appointment is to replace Professor James T. Lendrum, who served as Acting Director of the Small Homes Council from 1949-51 and as Director since 1951, and who has resigned to become Head of the Department of Architecture at the University of Florida. The recommendation was initiated by the Executive Committee of the Small Homes Council, an interdepartmental group with representatives from the Departments of Architecture, Civil Engineering, Economics, Home Economics, Mechanical Engineering, Psychology, and Sociology and Anthropology, and has been unanimously endorsed by the Executive Committee of the College of Fine and Applied Arts as well as by members of the staff of the Council who hold academic rank. The Vice-President and Provost and the Dean of the Graduate College have also been consulted and approve. I recommend approval of this appointment.

On motion of Mr. Swain, this appointment was approved.

APPOINTMENT OF HEAD OF DEPARTMENT OF ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY (3) T h e Dean of the College of Dentistry and the Vice-President in charge of the Chicago Professional Colleges recommend the appointment of Dr. Axel Gordon Anderson as Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Head ot the Department, in the College of Dentistry on indefinite tenure, and also Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery, in the College of Medicine on indefinite tenure, effective October 1, 1957, at a salary of $14,000 a year on "Y" basis; the appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery in the College of Medicine is without salary.
