BOND O F UNIVERSITY TREASURER

Mr. Fornof, for the Finance Committee, presented the following report:

In electing Mr. C. W. Weldon on March 13, 1951, for a term of two years, the Board fixed the bond at $5,000,000 and instructed the Finance Committee to examine the bond and report on the same to the Board. Mr. Weldon has offered a bond signed by himself as principal, with Edward E. Brown, James B. Forgan, and Homer J. Livingston as sureties for the required amount, providing for a full accounting for bonds and securities coming into the Treasurer's hands during his term of office and until his successor is elected and qualified. The Committee has examined this bond and recommends its approval. O n motion of M r . Fornof, the recommendation of the Finance Committee was approved.

BUSINESS PRESENTED BY T H E PRESIDENT OF T H E UNIVERSITY

T h e Board resumed consideration of the following recommendations and reports presented by President Stoddard.

CHAIRMANSHIP O F DEPARTMENT O F ECONOMICS

(45) President Stoddard reported that Professor Everett E. Hagen, Chairman of tiie Department of Economics, has announced his resignation effective August 31, 1951, and has asked to be relieved of his administrative duties as Chairman for the rest of the academic year. The President stated that he had accepted Professor Hagen's proposal to be relieved as Chairman effective July 25, 1951, and had asked Acting Dean Robert R. Hudelson of the College of Commerce and Business Administration to serve also as Acting Chairman of the Department of Economics. O n motion of M r s . W a t k i n s , the action of the President in relieving Professor H a g e n of the chairmanship of the Department was confirmed and the appointment of D e a n Hudelson as Acting Chairman was approved.

LEGISLATION BEFORE T H E SIXTY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY O F ILLINOIS AFFECTING T H E UNIVERSITY

(46) The President of the University presented, for the information of the Board, a digest of the bills introduced in the Sixty-seventh General Assembly of Illinois affecting the University. A copy of this report is filed with the Secretary of the Board as a matter of record.

SEPTEMBER MEETING O F T H E BOARD

O n motion of M r . Johnston, the Board voted to dispense with a regular meeting in August and to hold its next meeting in Chicago, Illinois, on September 19, 1951, the h o u r and place to be determined by the President of the Board.
