CONTRACT FOR IMPROVEMENTS IN BETATRON BUILDING AT T H E CHICAGO PROFESSIONAL COLLEGES

(16) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $10,600 to the Midwest Engineering and Equipment Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for changes in the Betatron Building at the Chicago Professional Colleges to provide proper ventilation. The work will consist of replacing the present oversized ventilating unit with a smaller air-conditioning unit to supply cool dehumidified air in the summer and warm air in the winter months. There is a balance of approximately $7,000 in an appropriation previously made by the Board for the Betatron installation. The special appropriations for nonrecurring expenditures being recommended in today's meeting includes an item of $5,027 to supplement that balance and to provide for the installation of the air-conditioning equipment. Subject to approval of this appropriation, I recommend that this contract be awarded and that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute it.

On motion of Mrs. Holt, this contract was authorized as recommended.

CONTRACT FOR FUEL STORAGE TANK A N D PIPING FOR DIESEL ENGINE GENERATOR AT ABBOTT POWER PLANT

(17) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend the award of a contract for $7,844 to Gallaher and Speck, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for the installation of a fuel oil storage tank and necessary piping for the Diesel engine house to be constructed as part of the addition to the Abbott Power Plant. Funds are available in the state appropriation for "Additions to Power and Heating Plant and remodeling of existing buildings." I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract. O n motion of M r s . W a t k i n s , this contract was authorized as recommended.

CONTRACT FOR INSTALLATION OF PIPING IN STEAM T U N N E L

(18) The Board of Trustees appropriated $14,000 for the improvement of the main campus steam condensate return system of which $6,000 had been budgeted for the installation of a six-inch return pipe in a tunnel from First Street to Euclid Avenue and $8,000 for the installation of a vacuum pump in the new vault adjacent to the tunnel system at the Administration Building. The following bids have been received on the installation of piping: Gallaher and Speck, Inc., Chicago $11 5 0 0 William A. Pope Company, Chicago 11 608 Associated Piping Contractors, Inc., Chicago. 11 920 N. J. Holleran, Inc., Chicago 16 765 This will require $6,000 of additional funds which can be provided from balances in budgeted appropriations to the Physical Plant Department for the current fiscal year. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $11,500 to Gallaher and Speck, the lowest bidder. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract. O n motion of M r . Nickell, this contract was authorized as recommended.

CONTRACT FOR ACOUSTICAL TREATMENT OF ROOMS IN SMITH MUSIC HALL A N D ST1VEN HOUSE

(19) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend award of a contract for $6,985 to the Acoustical Floor Tile Company, Champaign, the lowest bidder, for acoustical treatment in rooms in Smith Music Hall and Stiven House.
