PURCHASE OF PROPERTY AT 5 0 1 S O U T H WRIGHT STREET, CHAMPAIGN

(14) The property at 501 South Wright Street, Champaign, has been offered for sale to the University for $20,000, the appraised value, subject to immediate acceptance. This property at the southwest corner of Springfield Avenue and Wright Street is a lot 99 feet by 66 feet and has on it a two-story and basement, eight-room frame residence with asphalt shingle roof. The building is used as a student rooming house. It is immediately east of the new State Water Survey Building and will eventually be needed for future expansion of the campus in that area. This property is strategically located for commercial use and if so developed it would cost much more to acquire later. The Director of the Physical Plant, the Comptroller, and the Chairman of the University Building Program Committee recommend acquisition of this property. I concur and request that an appropriation of $20,000 be made from the General Reserve for this purpose. On motion of M r . Livingston, the purchase of this property was authorized and an appropriation of $20,000 was made, as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, M r . Herrick, M r . Hickman, M r . Livingston, M r . McLaughlin, M r s . Watkins, M r . Williamson; no, none; absent, M r . Fornof, M r s . Holt, Doctor Meyer, M r . Nickell, M r . Stevenson.
