The total estimated cost of these installations is $49,970. Funds are available. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute these contracts. O n motion of M r . McLaughlin, authority was given, as recommended.

CHANGE IN CONTRACTS FOR REMODELING QUARTERS FOR DEPARTMENT OF BACTERIOLOGY

(19) With the removal of the Biochemistry Division of the Department of Chemistry from Noyes Laboratory to the East Chemistry Building, space was released to provide more adequate quarters for the Department of Bacteriology which has been housed for many years in Noyes Laboratory. On September 29, 1950, the Board of Trustees authorized contracts for remodeling in Noyes Laboratory for the Department of Bacteriology. Funds had previously been made available for these improvements. The Department has recently requested additional changes and the Board on December 28, 1950, appropriated the necessary funds. The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend additions to the contracts for this remodeling work as follows: Proposed Original Previous Additional Estimate Increase Increase Contractor Submitted Approved by (Estimated to Board E. CONTRACT FOR STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEM IN 1LLINI HALL AREA

(20) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend the award of a contract for $5,100 to the General Paving Company, Champaign, the lowest bidder, for construction of a new storm drainage system in the driveways and other areas between Mini Hall and adjacent buildings at the northwest corner of John and Wright Streets. This improvement is needed to protect the basement of the Arcade Building which is used for storage by the Mini Union Bookstore. The installation of the sewer will require replacement of the present drive between the buildings which is in poor condition and would need replacement in any case. Funds are available in the state appropriation for "Construction of extensions to the Utility Distribution Systems." I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract. O n motion of Mr. Livingston, authority was given, as recommended.

CONTRACT FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES ON PLANT FOR PRODUCTION OF DISTILLED WATER

(21) Approximately sixty laboratories at Urbana use distilled or demineralized water which is produced by twenty-five water stills and two demineralizing units. Thirteen of the twenty-seven departments operating this equipment report inadequacy of or dissatisfaction with the present equipment. It is desirable to determine the feasibility of a central production plant and other possibilities of producing distilled water at the lowest cost. Wilson and Anderson, Consulting Engineers, Champaign, have offered to make this study on the basis of: (a) $4.50 per hour for the time of the principal
