UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF PARKING LOTS

(24) The Director of the Physical Plant and the Comptroller recommend the award of a contract to the Champaign Asphalt Company, Champaign, the lowest bidder, for the construction of parking lots, using asphalt for surfacing, as follows: 601 East John Street, $7,099.23; 1108 West Green Street, $6,691.95. Funds are available. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract. The proposed parking lots are in areas of critical need for such facilities. The expansion of the lot at 1108 West Green Street will serve the Student and Staff Apartments at Goodwin Avenue and Green Street. O n motion of D r . Meyer, authority was given as recommended.

CONTRACT FOR PURCHASE OF COAL FOR URBANA-CHAMPA1GN DEPARTMENTS

(25) Bids have been solicited on uniform specifications for 40,000 tons coal screenings to be delivered as required during the period from September I, 1950, to May 31, 1951. The Director of Purchases and the Comptroller recommend that a contract be awarded to the Republic Coal and Coke Company of Chicago, the lowest bidder, for \VA" washed screenings coal to be furnished from their mine located near Danville, Illinois, at a cost of $3-95 f.o.b. mine, freight $.99, total $4.94, estimated total cost $197,600. The lowest bid is determined by the number of British Thermal Units for one cent based on guaranteed analyses. A continuous check at the Power Plant is provided to insure compliance with specifications. The contract is subject to approval by the Governor. I concur in the recommendation and request that the contract be awarded accordingly.

On motion of Mrs. Holt, this contract was awarded as recommended.

(26) The Director of Purchases has proposed and the Comptroller recommends the following purchases. Unless otherwise specified, the purchase in each case is recommended on the basis of lowest bid. I concur.
