EMORIAL DAY was established as a day of thanksgiving for the end of the war between the States and to honor the memory of those veterans who died in that conflict. Since i our untry has also chosen Memorial Day as the occasion on which we pay tribute to the veterans of all our wars. It is, therefore, most appropriate that on Memorial Day, 1946, the first following the end of World War II, we, the University, the Alumni As n, and American Legion Post join to honor the memory of those 738 alumni and members of the faculty of the University of Illinois who gave the last full measure of devotion in the service of their country and our country in this greatest
