Allis-Chalmers contract. It was originally planned to have it built by some manufacturer of electrical equipment, but it was found that the Shipyard could do it for much less provided that responsible and skilled personnel representing the University was on hand to supervise the work. Arrangements have been made for Allis-Chalmers engineers experienced in coil winding to represent the University. The rates of compensation payable have been approved by the Head of the Department of Physics. I concur and request that the Comptroller be authorized to execute this change in the contract.

On motion of Mr. Livingston, this change of contract was authorized as recommended.

AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR NATURAL RESOURCES GARAGE (17) The State Geological and Natural History Surveys have requested the University to supervise certain alterations in the Natural Resources Building Garage to provide additional shop and storage space. The funds will be provided by the Geological Survey. Dr. M. M. Leighton, Chief of the Geological Survey, the Director of the Physical Plant Department, and the Comptroller recommend award of the contract for $6,676.24 to Clyde Gates, the lowest bidder. I concur. REPORT ON ELECTRICAL CONTRACT FOR UTILITIES DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM (18) On January 25, 1947 (Minutes, page 228), the Board of Trustees awarded a contract to the A. S. Schulman Electric Company for the electrical distribution work in connection with the construction of the Utilities Distribution System. This contract was subject to an escalation to a maximum of 16.4 per cent. The total amount of the contract to date is $171,621.75, of which $170,998.38 is subject to the escalation provision. The Comptroller reports that the A. S. Schulman Electric Company has incurred additional costs under this escalation clause of $29,811.10 but are limited by the maximum escalation provision to a reimbursement of $28,043.73.

ADDITION TO HEATING AND VENTILATING CONTRACT FOR EAST CHEMISTRY BUILDING (19) The Director of the Physical Plant Department and the Comptroller recommend an increase in the amount of $7,l7 2 -65 in the contract with the CarsonPayson Company for heating and ventilating installations in the construction of the East Chemistry Building to provide for: 1. Substitution of reduced voltage starters in lieu of those specified for four large motors $1 474 60 2. Provision for high-pressure steam service in the Instrumentation Laboratory and the Unit Operations Laboratory 5 698 05 Funds are available for these additions in the appropriation for the East Chemistry Building. I concur and request that the Comptroller be authorized to execute these additions.

On motion of Mr. Nickell, these additions to contract were authorized as recommended.

INSURANCE ON AUTOMOBILE FLEET (20) On May 21, 1949 (Minutes, page 366), the Board received a report on this problem and directed that bids be solicited, and authorized the Finance Committee to consider these bids and make an award. In accordance with this action, bids were solicited on insurance for one year effective July 1, 1949, with limits of $25,000 to $50,000 bodily injury and $5,000
