DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN COMMUNICATIONS (7) T h e Executive Faculty of the Graduate College and the University Senate recommend the establishment of a program of study of mass communications leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. I concur. O n m o t i o n of M r . M c L a u g h l i n , t h i s r e c o m m e n d a t i o n w a s a p p r o v e d . FIVE-YEAR CURRICULUM IN ARCHITECTURE (8) T h e faculty of the College of Fine and Applied Arts and the University Senate recommend the establishment of a five-year curriculum in architecture leading to the degree of Bachelor of Architecture with two options: (1) general option for architects and (2) engineering option for architectural engineers. This is a revision and expansion of the present four-year undergraduate curriculum in architecture to five years. I t is proposed to inaugurate this curriculum for students entering as freshmen in September, 1949 (see Appendix, page 477). I concur in these recommendations. O n motion of M r s . W a t k i n s , these r e c o m m e n d a t i o n s w e r e a p p r o v e d . AWARD OF CERTIFICATES OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT (9) T h e Committee on Accountancy recommends the following persons for the Illinois C.P.A. certificate under Section 5 of the Accountancy Act of 1943. They have submitted satisfactory evidence that they were holders of valid unrevoked C.P.A. certificates issued by other states on the basis of written examinations. They have satisfied all other requirements of the law.

SABBATICAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSOR NEIL E. STEVENS* (10) Professor Neil E. Stevens of the Department of Horticulture has been granted sabbatical leave of absence for six months beginning March I, 1950, on one-half pay. H e has requested that this be changed to sabbatical leave for one year on one-half pay, beginning September I, 1949. I recommend approval.

On motion of Mrs. Holt, this leave of absence was authorized.

SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR NONRECURRING EXPENDITURES (11) T h e Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures recommends assignments from the General Reserve Fund for the following purposes: 1.
