for the general repairs and alterations in these two houses in accordance with their proposal. This firm has done some minor work at Robert Allerton Park, and their work is of good character. The estimate of all work at the House in the Woods is $5,000 and at the gardener's house, $7,000. Funds are available in the income from the farms which may be applied to these expenditures. There will be income from the use of both houses from which the outlay can gradually be recovered. I concur and recommend approval. SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR NONRECURRING EXPENDITURES (42) The Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures recommends assignments from the General Reserve Fund for the following purposes: 1. AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR GENERAL WORK IN CONNECTION W I T H REMODELING T H I R D FLOOR OF 1LLINI HALL FOR SPEECH LABORATORY (43) A separate request has been submitted to the Board of Trustees by the Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures for an appropriation of $39,000 for the above remodeling. The general work on this project in the amount of $27,400 is of a remodeling character, and it is not feasible to attempt to secure fixed bids. If the special appropriation is made available for this work, the Director of the Physical Plant Department and the Comptroller recommend that the work be done by Lewis S. Colbert under the terms of his standing contract with the University for minor remodeling. I concur and request that the Comptroller be authorized to execute the above addition to the standing contract with Lewis S. Colbert for minor remodeling. O n m o t i o n of M r s . CONTRACT FOR INTERIOR REMODELING AT THE CHICAGO PROFESSIONAL COLLEGES (44) The Director of the Physical Plant Department and the Comptroller recommend the award of a contract for $4,588 to Frank H . Stowell Company, Chicago, the lowest bidder, for interior building remodeling at the Chicago Professional Colleges to provide a new darkroom for development of photographic plates and films, additional quarters for the internal auditing division of the Business Office, and additional quarters for the Nonacademic Personnel Office. Funds are available. I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute this contract. O n m o t i o n of M r .
