2. T h e price to the University will be reduced $8 a foot for every foot less than 150, to a minimum depth of ioo feet. 3. If the well is drilled and cased to a depth of 150 feet or more and a production of less than fifty gallons a minute of clear water is not obtained, a credit will be allowed the University of $5 per foot drilled, provided that the contractor is permitted to retrieve and take possession of the screen and casing. I concur and request that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to make such a contract. Funds are available in income from farm operations allocated to the Park.

On motiqn of Mr. Nickell, authority was given as recommended.

APPROPRIATION AND AWARD OF CONTRACTS FOR ADDITION TO ANIMAL GENETICS BUILDING (21) The Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures recommends that an appropriation of $52,500 be made for construction of an addition to the Animal Genetics Building. The Director of the Physical Plant Department and the Comptroller recommend that if the appropriation is approved a contract for general work be awarded to Lewis S. Colbert, Champaign, for $34,700 and to Schroeder's, Champaign, for heating and ventilating work for $7,340. I concur and request that the Comptroller and the Secretary of the Board be authorized to execute the contracts as recommended.

On motion of Mr. McLaughlin, this contract was authorized and the appropriation was made as recommended, by the following vote: Aye, Mr. Fornof, Mr. Herrick, Mr. Hickman, Mrs. Holt, Mr. Livingston, Mr. McLaughlin, Dr. Meyer, Mr. Nickell, Mrs. Watkins, Mr. Williamson; no, none; absent, Mr. Stevenson.

GIFT OF HOLABIRD AND ROOT AND BURGEE (22) The architectural firm of Holabird and Root and Burgee, Chicago, has given the University a valuable collection of approximately 1,500 volumes of architectural books for the Art and Architectural Reading Room of the Library at the Chicago Undergraduate Division at Navy Pier. The collection is appraised

a t $9,000.

This gift has been formally presented to the President of the University by Mr. John Wellborn Root, senior partner of the firm. In giving these books he has requested that the collection be known as the "John Augur Holabird Memorial," in memory of the late Colonel John Augur Holabird who was for many years a member of the firm. I have accepted the collection and request that the Board of Trustees give suitable recognition of this handsome gift.

On motion of Mrs. Holt, this report was received for record and the Secretary was requested to prepare a suitable resolution.

SPECIAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR NONRECURRING EXPENDITURES (23) T h e Committee on Special Appropriations and Nonrecurring Expenditures recommends assignments from the General Reserve Fund for the following purposes: 1. College of Veterinary Medicine for building improvements (remodeling of Veterinary Pathology Laboratory, remodeling of grounds, department barn and lots temporarily used for large animals) $32 500 2. Street improvements, University's share of cost 2 650 Widening and resurfacing of Daniel Street, Champaign $1 725 Excavating, drainage, concrete pavement, and curbs on Edwin and Eureka Streets, Champaign 925 3. University Library for purchase of books and periodicals 15 000 4. Remodeling in Talbot Laboratory 7 100 5. Department of Chemistry for equipment 10 OOP Total $67 250 I concur.

On motion of Mr. Livingston, these appropriations were made as
